Grudziądz Speedway Stadium
The Grudziądz Speedway Stadium (Polish: Stadion Żużlowy w Grudziądzu) is a 8,000-capacity motorcycle speedway stadium in the south of Grudziądz in Poland. The venue is used by the speedway team GKM Grudziądz, who compete in the Team Speedway Polish Championship. History The stadium opened before World War II. After the war the stadium was used by the Nadwiślan football club. The speedway track was constructed later and opened on 26 September 1967. Many years later the football team Stomil Grudziądz used the pitch but they were dissolved in 1998 and the pitch was removed to be replaced by a mini speedway track. In 2009, new seating was installed and from 2012 to 2018 renovation of the arena was carried out on an annual basis. The renovation included new track floodlights (2012), and the rebuilding of the northern section of the eastern stand (2015), east stand rebuild (2017) and the west stand rebuild (2018). Grudziądz (, ) is a city in northern Poland, with 92,552 inhabitants (2021). Motorcycle Speedway
Motorcycle speedway, usually referred to simply as speedway, is a motorcycle sport involving four and sometimes up to six riders competing over four clockwise, anti-clockwise laps of an oval circuit. The motorcycles are specialist machines that use only one gear and have no brakes. Racing takes place on a flat oval track usually consisting of soil, dirt, loosely packed shale, or crushed rock (mostly used in Australia and New Zealand). GKM Grudziądz is a Polish motorcycle speedway team based in Grudziądz. They race at the 8,000-capacity Grudziądz Speedway Stadium. The team currently competes in the Ekstraliga (speedway), Ekstraliga (the highest division) and have won the bronze medal in the Team Speedway Polish Championship once (as of 2022). History 1948 to 1950 The club's predecessor was Olimpia Grudziądz, which competed in the inaugural 1948 Polish speedway season and won the bronze medal. The Olimpia motorcycle club had been established in 1924. In 1949 Polish speedway season, 1949, they competed as Olimpia-Unia Grudziądz and in 1950 Polish speedway season, 1950 as Unia Grudziądz. The Team Speedway Polish Championship ( Polish: ''Drużynowe Mistrzostwa Polski, DMP'') is an annual speedway event held each year in different Polish clubs organized by the Polish Motor Union (PZM) since 1948. In 2000, the First Division was renamed Ekstraliga, and the number of teams was reduced. The team winning the league is awarded a gold medal and declared Polish Team Champions. Teams finishing second and third are awarded silver and bronze medals respectively. Maksims Bogdanovs (born 2 January 1989) is a motorcycle speedway rider from Latvia. Career Bogdanovs participated in Speedway Grand Prix of Latvia competitions in 2007 and 2008. Bogdanovs was part of the Lokomotiv Daugavpils team that first competed in the Polish leagues in 2005. He is twice become a champion of Latvia, winning the Latvian Individual Speedway Championship in 2012 and 2017. Bogdanovs returned to race in the Speedway Grand Prix ten years after his last appearance by competing in the 2017 Speedway Grand Prix of Latvia, where he score eight points. Artem Laguta
Artem Grigoryevich Laguta (; born 13 November 1990) is a Russian motorcycle speedway rider and member of the Russian national team. He is the 2021 World Champion. Career details Laguta became the Russian champion in 2010 and 2011. In August 2010, during the Speedway Grand Prix Qualification he won the GP Challenge, which ensured that he claimed a permanent slot for the 2011 Grand Prix. He is also a three times world team champion with Russia after partnering Emil Sayfutdinov during three consecutive years, as Russia won the Speedway of Nations in 2018, 2019 and 2020. In April 2020, he obtained a dual national speedway licence after obtaining a Polish licence, although he continued to represent Russia. Laguta became the 2021 Individual World Champion after winning the 2021 Speedway Grand Prix with 192 points.
