Griqualand West Cricket Team
Northern Cape (formerly Griqualand West) is a first-class cricket team that nominally represents the South African province of Northern Cape in the CSA Provincial Competitions. The team is selected and supported by Northern Cape Cricket and plays its home games at the De Beers Diamond Oval in Kimberley. At organisational level, Northern Cape Cricket is responsible for the administration and development of cricket in the province and among its primary functions are management and promotion of the Northern Cape team. Originally founded sometime before 1884 as the Kimberley Cricket Club, the organization developed at provincial level as the Griqualand West Cricket Board until 2015 when it was renamed Northern Cape Cricket to comply with a government directive that provincial sporting bodies should have their governance structure aligned with the geo-political structure of the country. De Beers Diamond Oval
The De Beers Diamond Oval is a cricket stadium in Kimberley, Northern Cape, South Africa. It opened in 1973 and has a capacity of 11,000. It is currently used mostly for cricket matches and is the home venue of both the Knights (cricket team), VKB Knights, in the Sunfoil Series, and Northern Cape cricket team, Northern Cape (formerly Griqualand West), in the CSA Provincial Competitions. Griqualand West left the old De Beers Stadium ahead of the 1973–74 season and have been resident at the Diamond Oval since then. The ground is in the Cassandra suburb of Kimberley at the junction of Lardner Burke Avenue with Dickenson Avenue. Barney Barnato
Barney Barnato (born Barnet Isaacs; 21 February 1851 – 14 June 1897) was a British Randlord and diamond magnate who was one of the entrepreneurs who gained control of diamond mining, and later, gold mining in South Africa from the 1870s up to World War I. He was known as a rival of Cecil Rhodes. Early life Barnato was born Barnet Isaacs in Aldgate, London, on 21 February 1851, to Isaac and Leah Isaacs. He and his siblings, Harry, Kate, Sarah and Lizzie, grew up in Whitechapel. Their mother died in 1852 and their father made a living by selling second hand clothing and fabric remnants. Barnato was educated by Moses Angel at the Jews' Free School, but left school with Harry in their early teens to join their father's business. De Beers Stadium
The De Beers Stadium in Kimberley, Northern Cape, South Africa was the home ground of the Griqualand West (now called Northern Cape) cricket team from 1927 to 1973. It staged a total of 88 first-class matches, in all of which Griqualand West was the home team. Their opponents were usually rival teams in the Currie Cup and the venue also hosted international touring teams including Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), the Australians and the New Zealanders. With Griqualand West departing in 1973, only two List A matches were held there. Western Province Cricket Team (South Africa)
World Sports Betting Western Province is a professional Western Cape first-class cricket team which has been part of the Sotuth African domestic cricket structures since the 1890's. The team later restructured into the Cape Cobras which became part of the Cricket South Africa Franchise era from 2005 to 2021. Queenstown, Eastern Cape
Queenstown, officially Komani, is a town in the middle of the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa, roughly halfway between the smaller towns of Cathcart and Sterkstroom on the N6 national route. Eastern Province Cricket Team
Eastern Province cricket team was the former team that represented the Eastern Province in domestic first-class cricket in South Africa, alongside one-day matches. Eastern Province played first-class cricket from 1893–94 to 2004–05, when the team was merged with neighbouring team Border to form the entirely professional franchise the Warriors. From 2004–05 the former provincial teams, such as Eastern Province, were allocated two CSA Provincial Competitions that they could participate in: the CSA 3-Day Cup and the CSA One-Day Cup. Gauteng Cricket Team
Gauteng (formerly Transvaal) is the first-class cricket team of the southern parts of Gauteng province of South Africa. The team was called ''Transvaal'' from April 1890 to April 1997 (the area north of Johannesburg, including Pretoria being part of the Northerns (cricket team), Northerns, formerly ''Northern Transvaal''). Kimberley, Northern Cape
Kimberley is the Capital city, capital and largest city of the Northern Cape province of South Africa. It is located approximately 110 km east of the confluence of the Vaal River, Vaal and Orange Rivers.
