''Greta'' is a 2018 psychological thriller film directed by Neil Jordan and written by Ray Wright and Jordan. Greta is a district in Victoria, Australia, located east of Benalla, in the Rural City of Wangaratta. At the , Greta had a population of 107 and Greta West had a population of 162. History The district had four villages, all of which were called Greta at some stage. The original township known as Greta, located on Fifteen Mile Creek, is now called Greta West, and was once home to the family of bushranger Ned Kelly and Aaron Sherritt. The name is thought to be derived from Greta River in Cumberland, England. Following the discovery of gold near Beechworth in 1852, roads to the diggings passed through the Greta area. Greta Army Camp was an Australian Army camp built in 1939 near Greta, New South Wales, Australia. It was used for training soldiers of the Second Australian Imperial Force (2AIF) during World War II. After World War II, the camp was converted into a migrant camp. The Australian army sold the site at auction in 1980. Greta, New South Wales
Greta is a small town in the Hunter Region of New South Wales, Australia. History The traditional owners and custodians of the Maitland area are the Wonnarua people. The Greta area was first colonised by Europeans around Anvil Creek in the 1830s. When the town was surveyed in 1842 it was given the name Greta, possibly after a small river in Cumberland, England. Coal mining was established in the area in 1862 with the development of a railway station. In 1864, kerosene shale was discovered. By the 1870s, Greta had four hotels, four churches, a school and schools of arts. Geologist Edgeworth David discovered the Greta Coal Seam in 1886. By 1907, ten collieries were in operation. At the 2016 census, the town had a population of 2,830. Greta's population increased to 3,349 at the 2021 census. ''Greta oto'' is a species of brush-footed butterfly and member of the subfamily Danainae, tribe Ithomiini, and subtribe Godyridina. It is known by the common name glasswing butterfly for its transparent wings, which allow it to camouflage without extensive coloration.
