Eduard Grell
Eduard Grell or August Eduard Grell (6 November 1800 – 10 August 1886) was a German composer, organist, and music teacher. Grell was born in Berlin. Among his early teachers were Carl Friedrich Zelter and Carl Friedrich Rungenhagen. On Zelter's recommendation, Grell became in 1817 the organist at the St. Nicholas' Church, Berlin, Nikolaikirche in Berlin; he also joined the Sing-Akademie zu Berlin of which he was a lifelong member, and director from 1853 to 1876, succeeding Rungenhagen. He also became in 1853 professor of composition at the Prussian Academy of Arts. In 1864 he was awarded the order "Pour le Mérite". Grell's oeuvre includes three symphonies, three string quartets, and large amounts of vocal music. He is considered one of the leaders of the Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, Palestrina renaissance in Europe. Glen R. Grell (born December 28, 1956) is a former Republican member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 87th District who was elected in 2004 and served until his resignation on April 30, 2015. Career Grell was the deputy general counsel to former governor Tom Ridge from 1995 to 2000. He sat on the House Judiciary, State Government, Insurance, and Labor Relations Committees. It was announced on May 14, 2015 that Representative Grell would be stepping down from the House of Representatives effective April 30, 2015 to serve as executive director of the Public School Employees' Retirement System (PSERS). Mervyn Grell
Mervyn George Grell (18 December 1899 – 11 January 1976) was a West Indian cricketer who played in one Test in 1930. Mervyn Grell served with the Honourable Artillery Company in Italy during World War I, and with the Local Trinidad Regiment in World War II. A hard-hitting lower-order batsman and a medium-pace bowler, Grell played only a handful of first-class matches between 1930 and 1937. The first two were for Trinidad against the visiting MCC in 1929–30. On his debut, played at Port-of-Spain in January 1930, he scored 40 and 54 batting at number 9 and 8 respectively; he top-scored in Trinidad's first innings and was their second-highest scorer in the second. He also took the wickets of Nigel Haig and Les Townsend in the visitors' second innings, both players caught by wicketkeeper Errol Hunte. Mike Grell (born September 13, 1947) is an American comic book writer and artist, known for his work on books such as '' Green Lantern/Green Arrow'', '' The Warlord'', and '' Jon Sable Freelance''. Early life Grell studied at the University of Wisconsin–Green Bay, the Chicago Academy of Fine Art, and took the Famous Artists School correspondence course in cartooning. To avoid getting drafted into Army service during the Vietnam War, he enlisted for four years in the U.S. Air Force, including a stint as illustrator in Saigon. After the Air Force, Grell enrolled in the Chicago Academy of Fine Art, and also worked as a freelance graphics artist. Career Grell entered the comics industry as an assistant to Dale Messick on the '' Brenda Starr'' comic strip in 1972.
