Outagamie County ( ) is a county in the Fox Cities region of the U.S. state of Wisconsin, in the northeast of the state. As of the 2020 census, the population was 190,705. Its county seat is Appleton. Outagamie County is part of the Appleton Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is itself part of the Appleton- Neenah- Oshkosh Combined Statistical Area. It was named for the historic Meskwaki (Fox) people. History "Outagamie", a French transliteration of the Anishinaabe term for the Meskwaki (Fox) people, means "dwellers of the other shore" or "dwellers on the other side of the stream", referring to their historic habitation along the St. Lawrence River and south of the Great Lakes. Greenville, Wisconsin
Greenville is a village in Outagamie County, Wisconsin. It is one of 18 communities that form the basis of the Fox Cities, the third largest metropolitan area in Wisconsin. The population was 12,619 in 2020. History The town was founded in 1848 as Greenville Station, and changed its name to Becker in 1879 (named after the first postmaster). Its name was changed to Greenville in 1896. After having an initial incorporation attempt denied by the Wisconsin Incorporation Review Board, the town was able to secure a referendum for a partial incorporation in November 2020. The eastern half of the community incorporated as a village in January 2021, and successfully annexed the remnant western half of the original township in June 2021. This makes it one of the largest villages in the State of Wisconsin by area and population. State Trunk Highway 76 (often called Highway 76, STH-76 or WIS 76) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. It runs north–south in east central Wisconsin from US Highway 45 near Bear Creek to a junction with US Highway 45 in downtown Oshkosh. The southern section of the present WIS 76 highway between the current WIS 15 (formerly US Highway 45) at Greenville and Oshkosh was previously part of US Highway 45 but was changed to Wisconsin State Highway 76 in the 1990s as an effect of the rerouting of US Highway 45 to a more westerly trunkline via Winchester, Wisconsin.
