Greek Football League
The Football League () was the second highest professional football league in Greece since its inception in 1962 as ''Beta Ethniki'' and until 2019. It then served as a third tier after the creation of the Super League 2 as the new second tier and it was eventually abolished in 2021 when the 2021–22 Super League 2 went from a 12 team to a 36 team league, absorbing most of the clubs from the Football League. Aigaleo or Egaleo ( ) is a town and a suburban municipality in the western part of the Athens#Athens Urban Area, Athens urban area, belonging to the West Athens (regional unit), West Athens regional administrative unit. Panserraikos Football Club (), the ''All-Serres Football Club'', is a Greece, Greek Association football, football club based in Serres in Central Macedonia, Greece. Panserraikos is one of the most important and well-supported clubs in northern Greece and had a near-continuous presence in the Super League Greece, First Division in the 1960s and 70s. The club currently play in Super League Greece, the top tier of Greek football. History Panserraikos was formed on 1964 in Serres, when two local clubs, Apollon and Iraklis, merged. Kavala (, ''Kavála'' ) is a city in northern Greece, the principal seaport of eastern Macedonia and the capital of Kavala regional unit. Panachaiki G.E. (Greek: Παναχαϊκή Γυμναστική Ένωση, ''Panachaiki Gymnastiki Enosi'', "Pan- Achaean Gymnastic Union") is a Greek multi-sport club based in the city of Patras, Greece. The history of Panachaiki began in 1891, when Panachaikos Gymnastikos Syllogos (Pan-Achaean Gymnastic Club) was founded. In 1894, a rival sports club, Gymnastiki Eteria Patron (Gymnastic Company of Patras), was founded in Patras by former Panachaikos' members. It was only in 1923 that the two clubs agreed to merge, forming Panachaiki Gymnastiki Enosi. Throughout a history of over 120 years, Panachaiki's athletes have won several Olympic medals. P.A.E. Pierikos () is a Greek football club based in Katerini, Greece, part of the major multi-sport club S.F.K. Pierikos (). Their name was inspired from the State's name of Pieria. The club competes in Gamma Ethniki. History of the club The foundation The club was founded on 11 April 1961 from the merger between Megas Alexandros (meaning Alexander the Great) Katerinis and Olympos Katerinis. Megas Alexandros had played in the 1st Division of Greek football in its first season ( 1959–60) but finished in the 15th position and thus relegated in the 2nd Division. Neither Megas Alexandros nor Olympos gained promotion in the following season. Unification of the two clubs has seen as the only way for the city of Katerini to have a team in the 1st Division.
