Greater East Side, Saint Paul
The Greater East Side is a neighborhood and city district in Saint Paul, Minnesota, in the United States. The community lies in the northeastern corner of the city and is bounded by Larpenteur Avenue on the north, Minnehaha Avenue on the south, McKnight Road on the east, and Johnson Parkway and English Street on the west. It is part of a group of neighborhoods collectively known as the East Side. The area is largely residential with an "urban suburban" mix, according to the neighborhood review site, Niche. A pair of adjacent parks in the neighborhood, Prosperity Park and Prosperity Heights Park, contain a playground, athletic fields, walking trails, and a 10-acre natural area. Larpenteur Avenue
Larpenteur Avenue (Ramsey County Road 30) is a main thoroughfare in Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States. Originally named Minneapolis Avenue, it was renamed by the Saint Paul City Council in 1904 in honor of Auguste Louis Larpenteur, a fur trader and one of the original 12 citizens in the city of Saint Paul. The west end of Larpenteur Avenue is at the border with Hennepin County in Lauderdale, immediately west of Minnesota State Highway 280. Larpenteur continues east from Lauderdale through the cities of Falcon Heights, Roseville, and Saint Paul, where it is an exit off of Interstate 35E and bisected by Lake Phalen to the east. In China, the Hmong people are classified as a sub-group of the Miao people. The modern Hmong reside mainly in Southwestern China and Mainland Southeast Asian countries such as Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, and Myanmar. There are also diaspora communities in the United States, Australia, France, and South America. Etymology The term ''Hmong'' is the English pronunciation of the Hmong's native name. Hmong Americans (Romanized Popular Alphabet, RPA: ''Hmoob Mes Kas'', Pahawh Hmong: "") are Americans of Hmong people, Hmong ancestry. Many Hmong Americans immigrated to the United States as refugees in the late 1970s, with a second wave in the 1980s and 1990s. Over half of the Hmong population from Laos left the country, or attempted to leave, in 1975, at the culmination of the Laotian Civil War. Neighborhoods In Saint Paul, Minnesota
Saint Paul, Minnesota, consists of 17 officially defined city districts or neighborhoods. In its history, the city has been called "fifteen small towns with one mayor", owing to the neighborhood-based life of much of the city, though the city is partially governed by not 15 but 17 City Districts. On Saint Paul's largely blue-collar East Side alone there are more than two dozen well-known, historically significant neighborhoods within four City Districts. District 4, for example, has three historic neighborhoods: Dayton's Bluff, Swede Hollow, and Mounds Park. The most populous districts, 2 and 5, have more than a dozen neighborhoods between them.
