Gradyville, Pennsylvania
Gradyville is an unincorporated community in Edgmont Township in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, United States. Gradyville is located at the intersection of Pennsylvania Route 352 and Gradyville Road. The crossroads community is named for John Cadwalader Grady (October 8, 1847 – March 5, 1916), an American lawyer and politician from Pennsylvania who served as a Republican member of the Pennsylvania Senate for the 7th district from 1877 to 1903 including as President Pro Tempore from 1887 to 1890. Grady, a Philadelphia resident, owned a country estate in Edgmont Township, and the post office was Howellville when he moved there. When he bought the Howellville Hotel, he changed the name to the Gradyville Hotel, and then used his political influence to have the post office renamed "Gradyville" in 1890. Edgmont Township is a township in Delaware County, Pennsylvania. Edgmont contains the unincorporated community of Gradyville. The population was 3,987 at the 2010 census. History and socioeconomics Edgmont Township, otherwise known by the post office name of Edgemont ( ZIP Code 19028), is a semi-rural suburban area in western Delaware County. It was one of the first townships in Pennsylvania, founded in the late 1680s. The name is derived from the ancient royal manor of Edgemond in Shropshire, England, where Joseph Baker, one of the earliest settlers to the township, emigrated from. Joseph Baker was the representative for Delaware County in the Provincial Assembly. Today, Edgmont is home to a rather wide socioeconomic range. Pennsylvania Route 352 (PA 352) is a north–south route that runs from U.S. Route 13 Business (US 13 Bus.) in Chester, Delaware County, north to US 30 in Frazer, Chester County. The route passes through suburban areas of Delaware and Chester counties, serving Parkside, Brookhaven, Elwyn, Lima, Gradyville, and Goshenville. PA 352 is a four- to five-lane road between Brookhaven and US 1, otherwise it is generally a two-lane road. The route intersects Interstate 95 (I-95) in Chester and US 1 near Lima at interchanges. PA 352 was first designated by 1928 to run between its current termini. A portion of the route between Brookhaven and US 1 was realigned to a straighter alignment in the 1950s.
