Grabow
Grabow () is a town in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. The town lies southeast of Ludwigslust, the next city, and has the river Elde passing through its old town which is characterized by 16th century timber-framed architecture. Mathilda Grabow (23 May 1852 – 29 May 1940), was a Swedish opera singer (soprano). She was a court singer (Hovsångare) (1886) and a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Music (1895) and was given Litteris et Artibus (1895). John William Grabow, nicknamed "Grabes" (born November 4, 1978) is an American former professional baseball left-handed reliever. He played for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Chicago Cubs of the Major League Baseball (MLB). In his MLB career, he held opposing batters to a .218 batting average and a .293 slugging percentage when there were runners in scoring position. The Grabow riot or Grabow massacre was a violent confrontation that took place between private police hired by management and labor factions in the timber industry near Grabow (Graybow), Louisiana, on July 7, 1912. The clash left three union workers and a company security employee dead, including union leader Asbury Decatur ("Kate") Hall, and an estimated fifty wounded. It was a crucial event in attempts to organize locals and unionize sawmill workers in Louisiana and east Texas in a series of events known as the Louisiana-Texas Lumber War of 1911-1912. There had been unrest for years in western Louisiana and eastern Texas as workers tried to organize to gain better conditions in the industry.
