Gorzów Wielkopolski
Gorzów Wielkopolski (), often abbreviated to Gorzów Wlkp. or simply Gorzów (formerly ), is a city in Geography of Poland, western Poland, located on the Warta, Warta River. It is one of the two principal cities and seats of the Lubusz Voivodeship, with a population of 114,567 . The city has a history dating back to the Timeline of Polish history#13th century, 13th century and serves as a cultural, economic, and industrial hub in the region. Gorzów Wielkopolski is home to several historical landmarks, green spaces, and educational institutions, and is known for its strong tradition in motorcycle speedway, speedway racing. A city with powiat rights () is in Poland a designation denoting 66 of the 107 cities (the urban gminas which are governed by a city mayor or ''prezydent miasta'') which exercise also the powers and duties of a Powiat, county (), thus being an independent city. They have roughly the same status as former county boroughs in the United Kingdom. Sometimes, such a city will also be referred to in Polish as city county (); this term however is not official (it was used during the interwar times of the Second Polish Republic). The contemporary term ''city with powiat rights'' should not be used interchangeably with the interwar ''city county''. Such cities are distinct from and independent of the 314 regular powiats (sometimes referred as 'land counties' (), again a term that was used in the interwar period and is not used in modern Polish law). Duchy Of Silesia
The Duchy of Silesia (, ) with its capital at Wrocław was a medieval provincial duchy of Poland located in the region of Silesia. Soon after it was formed under the Piast dynasty in 1138, it fragmented into various Silesian duchies. In 1327, the remaining Duchy of Wrocław as well as most other duchies ruled by the Silesian Piasts passed under the suzerainty of the Kingdom of Bohemia as the Duchies of Silesia. ''Mury'' (The Walls) was a clandestine Girl Scouts group organized by young Polish women who were political prisoners in the Ravensbrück concentration camp. The group, led by Scout Group Leader Józefa Kantor, was established on 30 November 1941. At first, ''Mury'' consisted of a small number of patriotic Girl Scouts. Then, later on, it grew to five units with about 100 young women. Their main activities included organizing food and medical supplies for the sick fellow prisoners, moral, psychological and religious support for the group members and other women in the concentration camp.
