Gortnahoe–Glengoole GAA () is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in the parish of Gortnahoe–Glengoole in County Tipperary, Ireland, on the border with County Kilkenny. It competes in hurling and Gaelic football in the Mid-Tipperary division of Tipperary GAA. Gortnahoe
Gortnahoe (), also known as Gortnahoo, is a village in County Tipperary, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. It is on the R689 road, south of Urlingford, County Kilkenny, where the N8 road (Ireland), N8 Dublin–Cork (city), Cork road can be accessed. Gortnahoe, pronounced "Gurt/na/hoo" by the locals, is part of the Ecclesiastical parish, parish of Gortnahoe–Glengoole. Etymology The former Irish name for Gortnahoe was ''Gort na hUaighe'', meaning the ploughed field of the grave. This would seem to be a more accurate name than ''Gort na hUamha'' (the ploughed field of the cave). There is no evidence of a cave in Gortnahoe, and it is likely that the name came from the existence of a grave. Although it is uncertain, it is believed that this grave was uncovered during renovations of the Sacred Heart Church during the early 1900s, when two skeletal remains were recovered believed to belong to those who died at a battle in nearby Ballysloe between the Kings of Munster and Leinster. ... Larry Kiely
Laurence Kiely (born 6 April 1941) is an Irish former hurler and show jumping rider. At club level he played with a number of sides, including Gortnahoe–Glengoole and Military College, and was also a member of the Tipperary senior hurling team. Kiely was also a member of the Army Equitation School and represented Ireland on a number of occasions. Early life Born and raised in Glengoole, County Tipperary, Kiely first played hurling as a schoolboy in various juvenile competitions at Glengoole National School before later lining out as a student at the Patrician College in Ballyfin. He was a member of the Patrician College team that won the Leinster Colleges' JHC title in 1957. Kiely joined the Irish Army as a cadet in January 1961 and won an All-Army hurling medal with the Military College later that same year. The 1965 All-Ireland Senior Club Camogie Championship for the leading clubs in the women's team field sport of camogie was won by St Patrick’s Glengoole ( Tipperary), who defeated Deirdre ( Antrim) in the final, played at Casement Park. All-Ireland Senior Club Camogie Championship
The All-Ireland Club Camogie Championship is a competition for club teams in the Irish women’s field sport of camogie. It is contested by the senior club champions of the leading counties and organised by An Cumann Camógaíochta. Trophy The trophy for the competition was donated by Bill Carroll, whose daughter, Ann was one of the outstanding players of the first decade of the competition, winning Championships with both St Patrick's, Glengoole and St Paul’s, Kilkenny. History The competition was established in 1964, six years before the equivalent competitions in hurling and Gaelic football. Johnny Moriarty
Johnny Moriarty (born November 1945) was an Irish hurler. His league and championship career with the Kilkenny senior team lasted one season from 1970 until 1971. Born in Gortnahoe, County Tipperary, Moriarty first played competitive hurling with Gortnahoe–Glengoole, with whom he won a Mid-Tipperary junior championship medal. After emigrating to London Moriarty played for the Young Irelands team before being headhunted by the St. Gabriel's club. After returning to Ireland he joined the Fenains club in Johnstown.
