Gorseinon
Gorseinon is a town within the City and County of Swansea, Wales, near the Loughor estuary. It was a small village until the late 19th century, when it grew around the coal mining and tinplate industries. It is around north west of Swansea City Centre. Gorseinon is a local government community with an elected town council. The population of the Gorseinon town council area in the 2011 Census was 8,693. However, the ONS defines an area called the Gorseinon Urban Area, which comprises all of the continuous built-up area in and around Gorseinon. This area includes Gorseinon, Loughor, Garden Village and Penllergaer and had a population of 20,581. Etymology The name Gorseinon means "Einon's marsh", from the soft mutated form of Welsh ' "marsh" and the male personal name ', the identity of whom is uncertain. Garden Village, Swansea
The Gorseinon Garden Village (sometimes known as the Fforestfach Garden Village) is a half-built Garden Village that is located between Gorseinon and Fforestfach in Wales. Part of the Garden City movement in Wales at the beginning of the 20th century, like many others it is half complete, its development having been interrupted by the outbreak of World War 1. It was designed by George Pepler and Ernest Allen, a pair of architects based in Swansea, in 1909. They displayed their architectural model at the Town Planning Exhibition at the Royal Academy in 1910. The original design was for an site, with a possibility for future enlargement, containing 100 houses and served by a road. The cottages, each with a garden in front, were in varied blocks of between 2 and 6 houses per block, arranged around an open court planted with trees. Loughor
Loughor (; ) is a town in Swansea, Wales. Historic counties of Wales, Historically in Glamorgan, it lies on the estuary of the River Loughor (). The town has a community (Wales), community council under the name Llwchwr. The town is bordered by the communities of Bynea in Carmarthenshire, Grovesend, Gowerton, and Gorseinon. Loughor is part of the built-up area of Gorseinon. Etymology The town's name has been called "possibly the oldest name in Gower", dating back to the Roman era. It derives from the name of the Roman Britain, Roman castra, fort of Leucarum. History The town includes the site of the Roman fort of Leucarum, occupied by Roman Auxiliary soldiers from AD73 to around 320. Gower Peninsula
The Gower Peninsula (), or simply Gower (), is a peninsula in the South West Wales, south-west of Wales. It is the most westerly part of the historic county of Glamorgan, and is now within the City and County of Swansea. It projects towards the Bristol Channel. In 1956, the majority of Gower became the first area in the United Kingdom to be designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Until 1974, Gower was administered as a rural district. Pontlliw (Welsh-language, Welsh spelling: ''Pont-lliw'') is a village in the community (Wales), community of Pontlliw and Tircoed, part of the Swansea, City and County of Swansea in Wales. The village is located near Pontarddulais, off Junction 47 of the M4 motorway. The name of the village comes from the Welsh language, Welsh word for bridge (''pont'') and the name of the River Lliw which runs through the village. Gower () is a constituency of the Senedd. It elects one Member of the Senedd by the first past the post method of election.
