Gneeveguilla GAA
Gneeveguilla are a Gaelic football team from County Kerry, Ireland. They play in the Kerry Intermediate Football Championship, Kerry County Football League (Division 1) and the East Kerry Senior Football Championship. The club was founded in 1960. Its facilities include a bar, meeting rooms, office, kitchen, gym and dressing rooms. The hall received renovations and extensions in late 2013. The club has won several county and provincial titles, and reached the All-Ireland Junior Club Football Championship final in 2022. Club member Ambrose O'Donovan was captain of the Kerry team which won the Centenary All-Ireland in 1984. Gaelic football (; short name '')'', commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA, or football, is an Irish team sport. A form of football, it is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or palming the ball into the other team's Goal (sport), goal (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goal and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the ball up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). In the game, two types of scores are possible: points and goals. A point is awarded for kicking or hand-passing the ball over the crossbar, signalled by the umpire raising a white flag. Kerry Intermediate Football Championship
The Kerry Intermediate Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition contested by mid-tier Kerry GAA clubs. Austin Stacks GAA, Austin Stacks are the title holders, having defeated Laune Rangers GAA, Laune Rangers 1–14 to 0–05 in the 2024 Kerry Intermediate Football Championship#Final, 2024 final replay. History The competition was revived in 1959, and District Boards had the right to enter teams. East Kerry Senior Football Championship
The East Kerry Senior Football Championship an annual Gaelic football competition organised by the East Kerry Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association since 1925 for the top Gaelic football teams in the North Kerry in Ireland. The championship currently uses a single-elimination tournament whereby each team is guaranteed one game. The title has been won at least once by 11 different teams. The all-time record-holders are Dr Crokes who have won a total of 32 titles. Dr Crokes the title-holders (2023). Most adult clubs in the division compete for this cup, even if they are playing at junior or intermediate grades. In recent years, the competition has been dominated by Dr Crokes, who won their thirtieth championship in December 2018. The winners receive the Dr O'Donoghue Cup. All-Ireland Junior Club Football Championship
The All-Ireland Junior Club Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition organised by the GAA. It is played between the Junior championship winners from each of the thirty-two counties of Ireland. Each team competes in their own provincial championship, with the four provincial winners competing in the All-Ireland. The competition has a straight knock-out format. It was first held in 2002 as an unofficial tournament, and has been an official GAA championship since the 2004–05 edition. Ambrose O'Donovan
Ambrose 'Rosie' O'Donovan (born 11 June 1962 in Gneeveguilla, County Kerry) is an Irish former sportsperson. He played Gaelic football with his local club Gneeveguilla and was a member of the Kerry senior inter-county team from 1984 until 1992. O'Donovan captained Kerry to the centenary-year All-Ireland title in 1984. O'Donovan was captain of the Kerry team which won the 1984 'Centenary All-Ireland' All-Ireland Senior Football Championship.http://www.rte.ie/laweb/ll/ll_t05e.html/ RTÉ TV revisits 1984 O'Donovan was one of the youngest captains of an All Ireland winning side. All-Ireland Senior Football Championship 1984
The 1984 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship was the 98th staging of the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's premier inter-county Gaelic football tournament. The championship began on 13 May 1984 and ended on 23 September 1984. Dublin entered the championship as the defending champions. On 23 September 1984, Kerry won the championship following a 0–14 to 1–6 defeat of Dublin in the All-Ireland final. This was their 28th All-Ireland title. Dublin's Barney Rock was the championship's top scorer with 5-24. Kerry's Jack O'Shea was the choice for Texaco Footballer of the Year.
