Gmina Żabno
__NOTOC__ Gmina Żabno is an urban-rural gmina (administrative district) in Tarnów County, Lesser Poland Voivodeship, in southern Poland. Its seat is the town of Żabno, which lies approximately north-west of Tarnów and east of the regional capital Kraków. The gmina covers an area of , and as of 2006 its total population is 18,846 (out of which the population of Żabno amounts to 4,271, and the population of the rural part of the gmina is 14,575). The gmina (Polish: , plural ''gminy'' ) is the basic unit of the administrative division of Poland, similar to a municipality. , there were 2,479 gminy throughout the country, encompassing over 43,000 villages. 940 gminy include cities and towns, with 322 among them constituting an independent urban gmina () consisting solely of a standalone town or one of the 107 cities, the latter governed by a city mayor (''prezydent miasta''). The gmina has been the basic unit of territorial division in Poland since 1974, when it replaced the smaller gromada (cluster). Three or more gminy make up a higher level unit called a powiat, except for those holding the status of a city with powiat rights. Pasieka Otfinowska
Pasieka Otfinowska is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Żabno, within Tarnów County, Lesser Poland Voivodeship, in southern Poland. The village's date of establishment is unknown and Pasieka refers to honeybee hives, while Otfinowska refers to a family that owned land in the area historically throughout the Middle Ages. It was home to Austria-Hungarian forces during World War I and a site of the Eastern Front. To this day, villagers often find remains and artifacts from the war. The village was also home to several Jewish families in hiding during World War II. Most villagers support Termalica Bruk Bet in the Ekstraklasa, which plays just across the Dunajec. The village is home to a high speed luxury ferry service across the Dunajec, which runs every 20 minutes and is free of charge. Nieciecza
Nieciecza is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Żabno, within Tarnów County, Lesser Poland Voivodeship, in southern Poland. It lies approximately north-west of Żabno, north-west of Tarnów, and east of the regional capital Kraków. It is situated on the right bank of the Dunajec River, a tributary of the Vistula. History According to medieval Polish chronicler Jan Długosz, in the 15th century, the village was owned by castellan Jan Rabsztyński of Topór coat of arms. In the late 19th century, the village had a population of 541. A volunteer fire department was established in 1903. In 1915, a theater and choir ensemble was founded in Nieciecza. It participated in patriotic, anniversary, church, and occasional events in various places in the region, and in choir competitions.
