Its seat is the village of Jankowice Rybnickie, which lies approximately south of Rybnik and south-west of the regional capital Katowice. Until 1999 its seat was Świerklany Górne. The gmina covers an area of , and as of 2019 its total population is 12,445. Jastrzębie-Zdrój (, ) is a city in the Silesian Voivodeship in southern Poland with 86,632 inhabitants (2021). Its name comes from the Polish words ''jastrząb'' ("hawk") and ''zdrój'' ("spa" or "spring"). From 1861 until the 20th century, it was a spa town, spa village situated in Upper Silesia.
