The gmina (Polish: , plural ''gminy'' ) is the basic unit of the administrative division of Poland, similar to a municipality. , there were 2,479 gminy throughout the country, encompassing over 43,000 villages. 940 gminy include cities and towns, with 322 among them constituting an independent urban gmina () consisting solely of a standalone town or one of the 107 cities, the latter governed by a city mayor (''prezydent miasta''). Kuropatnik
Kuropatnik is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Strzelin, within Strzelin County, Lower Silesian Voivodeship, in south-western Poland. History and Administration Historically, the village was known by its German name Töppendorf. The first recorded mention dates back to 1323 as "Topphendorph," likely founded during the medieval eastward expansion of German settlers. By 1783, it had 17 farmers, 31 gardeners and craftsmen, and a population of 351. In 1845, this grew to 934 residents in 130 houses, with an Evangelical school built in 1830, a watermill, 29 craftsmen, and five merchants. Before 1945, Töppendorf belonged to the German district of Strehlen. After World War II, it became part of Poland under the name Kuropatnik. The original German population was expelled, and new Polish settlers from areas annexed by the Soviet Union moved in.
