Its seat is the village of Dąbrowa Chełmińska, which lies approximately east of Bydgoszcz and north-west of Toruń. The gmina covers an area of , and as of 2006 its total population is 7,179. Ostromecko
Ostromecko is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Dąbrowa Chełmińska, within Bydgoszcz County, Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, in north-central Poland. It lies south-west of Dąbrowa Chełmińska, east of Bydgoszcz, and north-west of Toruń. History The village was first mentioned in a document of 1222. Ostromecko was a fortified stronghold protecting a trade route connecting the Teutonic Order's cities of Bromberg with Culm and the Baltic coast. Ostromecko was granted town rights in 1750. It was later located in the Chełmno Voivodeship of the Kingdom of Poland. In 1772, it was recovered by Prussia in the First Partition of Poland. In 1807, it was briefly regained by the Poles and included within the short-lived Napoleonic Duchy of Warsaw. After the duchy's dissolution in 1815, it was returned to Prussia.
