The Glidden–Ralston Community School District is a rural public school district based in Glidden, Iowa. The district is mostly in Carroll County, with a smaller area in Greene County. The district serves the towns of Glidden and Ralston, and the surrounding rural areas. The district has shared a superintendent with Paton-Churdan Community School District since 2015. The school's mascot is the Wildcats. Their colors are blue and gold. Glidden is a town in Carroll County, Iowa, United States. The population was 1,151 at the time of the 2020 census. History Glidden was laid out as a town in 1866. It was named either for Capt. W. T. Glidden, a railroad promoter, or in honor of Joseph Farwell Glidden, the inventor of barbed wire. Geography Glidden is located at (42.058263, -94.728359). Carroll County, Iowa
Carroll County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. As of the 2020 census, the population was 20,760. Its county seat is Carroll. The county is named in honor of Charles Carroll of Carrollton, signer of the Declaration of Independence. History Carroll County was formed on January 15, 1851, from sections of Pottawattamie County. It was named after Charles Carroll of Carrollton, Maryland, the only Roman Catholic and longest-living signer of the Declaration of Independence. In 1855, the county government was established in Carrollton and in 1858, the first courthouse was built. In 1869, the seat was moved to Carroll City (today Carroll) which was centrally located and connected to the Chicago and North Western Transportation Company. The courthouse was destroyed in 1886 by fire. The present courthouse was erected in 1965. However the courthouse is set to go under construction in the near future. The county seat is Jefferson, Iowa, Jefferson. The county is named in honor of General Nathanael Greene. History Greene County was formed on January 15, 1851, and from 1854, self-governed. The Rolling Valley Conference is a high school athletic conference in west central Iowa. The league began play in the 2013–14 season. Members include five former members of the Western Valley Activities Conference, five former members of the Rolling Hills Conference, and one former member of the West Central Activities Conference. Schools Former schools History Five members of the conference came from the Western Valley Activities Conference, which was formed in 2008 by the merger of the Maple Valley Conference and the Boyer Valley Conference. All five members of the Rolling Valley were members of the Boyer Valley Conference before the merger. The Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) is the regulating body for male Iowa high school interscholastic athletics and is a full member of the National Federation of State High School Associations.
