Glendale, Alberta
Glenbow is a locality in southern Alberta, in Rocky View County located northwest of the City of Calgary and east of the Town of Cochrane on Highway 1A. It is now part of the Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park. The Glenbow area is immediately west of Rocky View County's Bearspaw area. The name Glenbow is descriptive and refers to its location: it lies 'in a glen on the Bow' (Bow River). The name is a portmanteau. A Canadian Pacific Railway station was established at Glenbow in 1907. The post office operated from September 1, 1908 to October 15, 1920. Glenbow was well known for its sandstone quarry that supplied building material for Calgary's early commercial and institutional developments. Rocky View County is a municipal district in southern Alberta, Canada that is named for its views of the nearby Rocky Mountains to the west. Alberta Highway 1A
Highway 1A is the designation of two alternate routes off the Alberta portion of Trans-Canada Highway 1. However, it is not the only name used for spurs off Highway 1 - Highway 1X is another such designation. Despite these highways being suffixed routes of Highway 1, they are not part of the Trans-Canada Highway network, and are signed with Alberta's provincial primary highway shields instead of the Trans-Canada shields used for Highway 1. Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park
Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park is a provincial park in the Calgary Region of Alberta, Canada. The majority of the park is located on the north bank of the Bow River within Rocky View County. Portions of the eastern and western extremities of the park are located within the City of Calgary and the Town of Cochrane respectively. History Plans to establish Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park began in 2006 when the children of Alberta rancher Neil Harvie sold of land to the Government of Alberta for less than market value to conserve the land and protect it from development. Appraised at $67 million in 2005 and with an estimated value of $80 million in 2006, the land was sold to the province for $40 million and a $27 million charitable tax receipt. Bearspaw, Alberta
Bearspaw is rural area in southern Alberta, Canada in Rocky View County. It has a population of 5,567 (2018). The original inhabitants of the Bearspaw area were the Niitsitapi or Blackfoot nation. The Blackfoot nation consisted of four different tribes, Siksika, Piegan Blackfeet, Piikani Nation and Kaninai (Blood Indians). To the south-east of Bearspaw is the City of Calgary, and the Town of Cochrane is to its west, along Highway 1A. The area of Bearspaw is north of the Bow River and directly east of Glendale Community within Rocky View County.
