Gizela Bravničar
Gizela Bravničar (20 February 1908 – 3 February 1990) was a Slovenian ballet dancer, teacher, and choreographer. Biography Gizela Bravničar was born Gizela Bravničar in Trieste on 20 February 1908. She was privately tutored in ballet by Marija Tuljakova and Peter Gresserov. She married Matija Bravničar in 1932. She was a member of the Ljubljana Slovene National Theatre Opera and Ballet's troupe from 1927 to 1952. Bravničar danced most of the title roles whilst with the National Ballet, proving popular with audiences. Her best roles at the stage were ''Scheherezade'' by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, Rimsky Korsakov, a ballerina in ''Petrushka'' by Stravinskiy. From 1964 she became the Principal of the Secondary Ballet School in Ljubljana (now Ljubljana Music and Ballet Conservatory). Bravničar had one child with Matija, Dejan Bravničar. Matija Bravničar
Matija Bravničar (24 February 1897 in Tolmin – 25 November 1977 in Ljubljana) was a Slovenian composer. Bravničar was one of the first Slovenian symphonic composers. He composed four symphonies, two operas, several symphonic poems, chamber music, and other works. He first began studying the violin, and then studied composition with Mario Kogoj and Slavko Osterc at the Ljubljana Conservatory. He was a member of the opera orchestra in Ljubljana, and after the war a professor of composition. As an expressionist composer, his compositions often used elements of Slovenian folk music tradition. In 1963 he received the Prešeren Award for his Concerto for Violin and Orchestra. From 1972 until his death he was a member of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts. He married the ballet dancer and choreographer Gizela Bravničar in 1932. Ljubljana Slovene National Theatre Opera And Ballet
The Ljubljana Slovene National Theatre Opera and Ballet (, ), or shortly Ljubljana SNG Opera and Ballet, is Slovenia's national opera and ballet company. Its seat is the Ljubljana Opera House at 1 Župančič Street () in Ljubljana. The Ljubljana Slovene National Theatre Opera and Ballet was founded in 1918. It is now a subsection of the Slovene National Drama Theatre in Ljubljana ( and has about 50 dancers. Petrushka ( rus, Петру́шка, p=pʲɪtˈruʂkə, a=Ru-петрушка.ogg) is a stock character of Russian folk puppetry. It was first introduced by traveling Italian performers in the first third of the 19th century during a period of Westernization in Russian culture. Dejan Bravničar
Dejan Bravničar (October 1, 1937 in Ljubljana, – March 21, 2018) was a Slovenian violinist. His father was the composer Matija Bravničar, and his mother was the ballet dancer and teacher Gizela Bravničar. He studied at the Music School in Ljubljana, as a student in the class of :sl:Fran Stanič. He graduated from the Ljubljana Academy of Music in 1957 under Karel Rupel (1907–1968). From 1957 to 1960 he studied at the Moscow Conservatory in the class of the violinist David Oistrach and then trained at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome for a year under Italian violinist Pina Carmirelli. He began solely as a concert performer and as a soloist has performed with many orchestras under notable conductors, but later he worked as an educator. He played in England, France, Austria, Bulgaria, the Netherlands, Hungary, Poland, Switzerland and elsewhere.
