Girish Kasaravalli
Girish Kasaravalli (born 3 December 1950) is an Indian film director, in the Kannada cinema, and one of the pioneers of the Parallel Cinema. Known internationally for his works, Kasaravalli has garnered fourteen National Film Awards, including four National Film Award for Best Feature Film, Best Feature Films: ''Ghatashraddha'' (1977), ''Tabarana Kathe'' (1986), ''Thaayi Saheba'' (1997) and ''Dweepa'' (2002). In 2011, he was awarded with the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award by Government of India. A gold medalist from the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune, The film he made to fulfill his diploma, ''Avashesh'', was awarded the Best Student Film and the National Film Award for Best Short Fiction Film for that year. Ninasam (Kannada: ನೀನಾಸಂ) is a cultural organisation located in the village of Heggodu in Sagar Taluk of the Shivamogga district in the state of Karnataka, India. Ninasam (also spelt as Neenasam) is the short form of Sri NIlakanteshwara NAtyaseva SANgha, an organisation dedicated to the growth of drama, films and publishing. Yakshagana is a traditional theatre, found in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Kasaragod district and Uttara Kannada, Shimoga and western parts of Chikmagalur district, Chikmagalur districts, in the state of Karnataka and in Kasaragod district in Kerala that combines dance, music, dialogue, costume, make-up, and stage techniques with a unique style and form.
