Gilliat, Queensland
Gilliat is an abandoned outback town in the locality of Julia Creek in the Shire of Mckinlay, Queensland, Australia. Geography The town is adjacent to the Gilliat railway station () on the Great Northern railway line. As at 2020, there is only one building in the town (). History The area was originally traversed by Ludwig Leichhardt. The first Europeans to take advantage of the region’s pastoral potential were Duncan and Donald McIntyre. In 1862, these two men brought a substantial number of sheep into the area, but poor seasons, isolation and adverse weather conditions caused their venture to fail. Later, the area was explored in a more systematic way with permanent pastoral settlements such as Dalgonally and Lara being established. The town of Gilliat was initially surveyed as a railway town on 17 November 1900 by James Stroud. Bowen River (Queensland)
The Bowen River is a river in North Queensland, Australia. Course and features Formed by the confluence of the Broken River and the Little Bowen River near Tent Hill in the Normanby Range, part of the Great Dividing Range, the Bowen River flows in a north-westerly direction along the base of the range then flows west across Emu Plains and is crossed by the Bowen Developmental Road just north of Havilah. The river then flows north-west again between the Herbert Range and Leichhardt Range then discharges into the Burdekin River, south southeast of . The river descends over its course. The catchment area of the river occupies of which an area of is composed of riverine wetlands. The Gilliat River is a river in the Gulf Country region of Queensland, Australia. The headwaters of the river are under Mount Edna in the Swords Range, it then flows in a northerly direction and crosses the Landsborough Highway near Hutt Mill and then continues north west. It then forms a series of braided channels as it continues through the mostly uninhabited Gulf Country savannah. The river crosses the Flinders Highway approximately west of Julia Creek. Traeger is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland. It was created in the 2017 redistribution, and was named after Alfred Traeger, inventor of the pedal-powered radio, which was a significant contribution to people living in remote and rural communities in Queensland, such as those within Traeger. It takes in most of the urbanised portions of the abolished districts of Mount Isa and Dalrymple.
