''Gigi'' () is a 1944 in literature, 1944 novella by French writer Colette. The plot focuses on a young Parisian girl being groomed for a career as a courtesan and her relationship with the wealthy cultured man named Gaston who falls in love with her and eventually marries her. The novel was translated into English by Roger Senhouse and published (with "The Cat" translated by Antonia White) in 1953. The life story of Yola Letellier, the wife of Henri Letellier (publisher of ''Le Journal (Paris), Le Journal'' and mayor of Deauville (1925–1928)), was the inspiration for the novel. Adaptations The novella was the basis for Gigi (1949 film), a 1949 French film starring Danièle Delorme and Gaby Morlay. In 1951, it was Gigi (play), adapted for the stage by Anita Loos. Louise Christina Theodora "Gigi" Gaston is an American writer-director. Early life Gaston was born in Greenwich, Connecticut, to Teddy Getty Gaston and William Gaston who divorced when she was 8. She was raised in New Canaan, and later moved to the Los Angeles area. In 1977, while living in Santa Monica, CA, ''The New York Times'' noted that Gaston was an equestrian, and she pursued a career in show jumping. Gigi Parrish (born Katherine Gertrude McElroy; August 30, 1912 – February 8, 2006) was an American film actress who had a short career beginning in 1933, appearing only in nine films before retiring in 1937. Early life She was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, as Katherine Gertrude McElroy and raised in Hartford, Connecticut. Her mother died in 1918, and McElroy and her siblings were put up for adoption. After adoption by a wealthy family, she and her step-siblings were tutored by author Dillwyn Parrish. Gigi Masin (born October 24, 1955) is an Italian composer, Ambient music, ambient musician and producer from Venice. He is best known for his 1986 LP ''Wind'' and as a member of Gaussian Curve (band), Gaussian Curve, a trio with Jonny Nash and Young Marco. A member of Italy's underground electronic scene, Masin pressed ''Wind'' privately and only released it at a series of small concerts in 1986. Most of the remaining copies were destroyed when Masin's house was flooded. However, it became a cult item after being sampled by artists such as Björk and Nujabes, leading to a revival of interest in Masin's work.
