Gelnai (formerly , ) is a village in Kėdainiai district municipality, in Kaunas County, in central Lithuania. According to the 2011 census, the village had a population of 47 people. It is located from Vandžiogala, by the Mėkla river and its tributary the Klampis, next to the A8 highway, nearby the Labūnava Forest. There is an agroservice, a wayside chapel (cultural heritage object), a cemetery and many wooden sculptures made by local wood carver. Zaścianek (, literally: "[place] beyond the wall") was historically a village or a part of a village where petty nobility (''drobna szlachta'') lived, who did not own peasants and cultivated their land by the hands of their own family. The derived adjective ''wikt:zaściankowy, zaściankowy'' may mean "unsophisticated", "narrow-minded", or "out-of-the-way" and the word itself may be used in the meaning "backwater place". In historical Poland the term referred to the undistributed land in nonconvenient places, usually separated from the arable land by some natural boundaries: forest, swamp, etc. Peasants were allowed to ameliorate these lands and rent it from the landowner. Bronius Vyšniauskas
Bronius Vyšniauskas (1 May 1923 in Gelnai, Kėdainiai – 27 June 2015 in Vilnius) was a Lithuanian sculptor. He was an Honored Art Worker of the Lithuanian Soviet Socialist Republic (1963), People's Artist of the Lithuanian SSR (1973), and a recipient of the Lithuanian SSR State Prize (1973). In 1947, he graduated from Kaunas Decorative and Applied Arts Institute. Beginning in 1947, he participated in exhibitions. Starting in 1948, he taught at the Vilnius Art Institute (now Vilnius Academy of Arts), becoming a professor in 1978. Babtai
Babtai is a small town north of Kaunas, in Kaunas County, in central Lithuania. It is situated on the left bank of the Nevėžis River. As of 2011 it had a population of 1,563. History Babtai were mentioned in 1394 in Die Littauischen Wegeberichte of crusaders as patrimony (''kiemas Baptindorf''). Most likely the same place was mentioned in the report of Teutonic spies - "von dannen czu Bapto j mile" in 1386. In 1394 few homesteads were known, big gates were mentioned. Since the end of 15th century till 18th century Babtai was a domain of the Grand Duke of Lithuania. In 16th century and 17th century Babtai was a vivid trade center. Labūnava Forest
The Labūnava Forest () is a forest in Kėdainiai District Municipality, central Lithuania, located south east from Labūnava. It covers an area of . It consists of smaller forests: the Labūnava Forest (proper), the Kruopiai Forest, the Servydgalis Forest. Most of the forest belongs to the Barupė basin. As of the 1980s, 31 % of the area was covered by birch, 30 % by spruce, 13 % by aspen, 15 % by ash, 11 % by oak, black alder and white alder tree groups. A8 Highway (Lithuania)
The A8 highway is a highway in Lithuania (Magistraliniai keliai). It runs from Panevėžys, through Kėdainiai bypass to the interchange with A1 highway (Lithuania), A1 highway near Sitkūnai. From there, the road continues to Kaunas, Vilnius, Klaipėda or Warsaw. The length of the road is 87.86 km. The speed limit along most of the road length is 90 km/h. It is one of the most important transit roads in the Baltic States (part of Via Baltica corridor). This route is part of International E-road network (part of European route E67). Mėkla
The Mėkla is a river of Kaunas County, central Lithuania. It flows for 27 kilometres and has a basin area of 93 km2. It is a left tributary of the Barupė. The Mėkla river starts nearby Preišiogala, in Jonava District Municipality. It flows towards north western direction through Kaunas District Municipality and Kėdainiai District Municipality, then empties into the Labūnava Reservoir on the Barupė river next to Pamėkliai village. Vandžiogala
Vandžiogala (Polish: ''Wędziagoła'') is a small town in Kaunas County, Kaunas district municipality in central Lithuania. It is located north of Kaunas city municipality next to Urka brook. A Holy Trinity church was built in Vandžiogala in 1830. A town also has a post office (LT-54073), a community centre building, a school, a library, two cemeteries. A wayside shrine was erected during the 135th commemoration of January Uprising. As of 2011 it had a population of 861. Eastern European Summer Time (EEST) is one of the names of the UTC+03:00 time zone, which is 3 hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time. The territory of Lithuania is divided into 10 counties ( Lithuanian: singular ''apskritis'', plural ''apskritys''), all named after their capitals.
