Gertrudis Echeñique Mujica
Gertrudis Josefa del Carmen Echenique y Mujica (1849–1928) was First Lady of Chile between 1896 and 1901. She was born in Santiago, the daughter of Juan José Echenique Bascuñán and of his second wife, Jesús Mujica Echaurren. She married Federico Errázuriz Echaurren in 1868, and together they had two children: Federico (1869-1897) and Elena Errázuriz Echeñique (1870-1966). After the death of her husband, she withdrew to her hacienda of ''El Huique'', in the province of Colchagua, which she continued to manage until her death. The first lady of Chile () is the title for the wife of the president of Chile, who is traditionally responsible for directing and coordinating activities in the social field of the presidency and accompanying the president in ceremonies or official activities, for example, on state visits. Federico Errázuriz Echaurren
Federico Errázuriz Echaurren (Santiago, November 16, 1850 – Valparaíso, July 12, 1901) was a Chilean politician who served as the 12th president of Chile. Early life He was son of the president Federico Errázuriz Zañartu and of Eulogia Echaurren García-Huidobro. He studied at San Ignacio School of Santiago de Chile and in the National Institute of Santiago, where he received a bachelor's degree. He was joined the University of Chile where he became a lawyer on March 23, 1873. In 1875 he married Gertrudis Echeñique Mujica, a direct descendant of the governor of Chile Martín de Mujica, of whom she was the last heir of the El Huique; They had six children: Juan José, Elena, Federico, Eulogia, Jorge and María Jesús. Hacienda
A ''hacienda'' ( or ; or ) is an estate (or '' finca''), similar to a Roman '' latifundium'', in Spain and the former Spanish Empire. With origins in Andalusia, ''haciendas'' were variously plantations (perhaps including animals or orchards), mines or factories, with many ''haciendas'' combining these activities. Colchagua Province () is one of three provinces of the central Chilean region of O'Higgins (VI). Its capital is San Fernando. It is bordered on the north by Cachapoal Province, on the east by the Argentine Republic, on the south by Curicó Province, and on the west by Cardenal Caro Province.
