Carinthia (state)
Carinthia ( ; ; ) is the southernmost and least densely populated Austrian state, in the Eastern Alps, and is noted for its mountains and lakes. Jörg Haider
Jörg Haider (; 26 January 1950 – 11 October 2008) was an Austrian politician. He was Governor of Carinthia on two occasions, the long-time leader of the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) and later Chairman of the Alliance for the Future of Austria (Bündnis Zukunft Österreich, BZÖ), a breakaway party from the FPÖ. Haider was a controversial figure within Austria and abroad. Several countries imposed mild diplomatic sanctions against his party's participation in government alongside Wolfgang Schüssel's Austrian People's Party (ÖVP), starting from 2000. Haider died in a car accident shortly after leading the BZÖ in the 2008 Austrian parliamentary elections. Peter Kaiser (born 4 December 1958) is an Austrian politician of the Social Democratic Party of Austria, Social Democratic Party. Deutsch-Griffen () is a municipality in the district of Sankt Veit an der Glan District, Sankt Veit an der Glan in Austrian state of Carinthia (state), Carinthia. Geography Deutsch-Griffen lies in the north of Carinthia, about northwest of the state capital Klagenfurt. It is situated in the eastern Nock Mountains, in a left tributary valley of the Gurk (river), Gurk River on the Griffnerbach creek. The municipal area extends from the Gurk up to the Styrian border in the north. The Freedom Party in Carinthia (, FPK, alternative English translations: Carinthian Freedom Party, Freedom Party of Carinthia, The Freedomites in Carinthia, or Carinthia Freedom Party) was a political party in Austria, operating in the federal state of Carinthia. The FPK was founded as branch of the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) by Jörg Haider in 1986. The Federal Council (, ) is the upper house of the Austrian Parliament, representing the nine States of Austria at the federal level. As part of a bicameral legislature alongside the National Council, it can be compared with an upper house or a senate.
