Geospatial Commission
The United Kingdom's Geospatial Commission was an expert group responsible for promoting the use of geospatial data in the country. The commission also defines UK's "geospatial strategy". Initially established in 2018 as part of the Cabinet Office, it later moved to the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology before being merged into the Government Digital Service in January 2025. Geographic data and information is defined in the ISO/TC 211 series of standards as data and information having an implicit or explicit association with a location relative to Earth (a geographic location or geographic position). It is also called geospatial data and information, georeferenced data and information, as well as geodata and geoinformation. Location information (known by the many names mentioned here) is stored in a geographic information system (GIS). There are also many different types of geodata, including vector files, raster files, geographic databases, web files, and multi-temporal data. Department For Science, Innovation And Technology
The Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) is a ministerial department of the government of the United Kingdom. It was established on 7 February 2023 by a cabinet reshuffle under the Rishi Sunak premiership. The department took on policy responsibilities from the former Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) and the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport. The new department is responsible for helping to encourage, develop and manage the UK's scientific, research, and technological outputs. The Government Digital Service is a unit of the Government of the United Kingdom's Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, tasked with transforming the provision of online public services. It was formed in April 2011 by David Cameron's Conservative Party (UK) , Conservative government to implement the "Digital by Default" strategy proposed by a report produced for the Cabinet Office in 2010 called ''Directgov 2010 and beyond: revolution not evolution''. HM Land Registry
His Majesty's Land Registry is a non-ministerial department of His Majesty's Government, created in 1862 to register the ownership of land and property in England and Wales. It reports to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government(MHCLG). The land register contains information on 87% (by area) of the freehold land in England and Wales as of 2019. The Valuation Office Agency is a government body in Great Britain. It is an executive agency of His Majesty's Revenue and Customs.
