Georgije Bakalović
Georgije Bakalović (1786 - April 13, 1843) was a Serbian painter. Biography Bakalović was born in Sremski Karlovci, and studied there with the painter Stefan Gavrilović. He worked mostly iconostasis, murals and portraits. One of the iconostasis, he worked in the company of the painter and goldsmith Pavel Đurković. Bakalović painted the iconostasis and vault at Erdevik in 1817, the vault of the Upper Church of Sremski Karlovci in 1824, vaulted and executed 12 festive icons for the Church in Vrdnik in 1825, iconostasis in Čerević in 1827, vault, and icons at Uspenjske, restoration and renovation of the church iconostasis in the church Nikolaiviertel Church in Irig in 1827, iconostasis and arches for the Jovanovski Church in Novi Sad in 1830, and iconostasis for the monastery at Grgeteg in 1830 (burned 1841). Ruma
Ruma (; hu, Árpatarló) is a town and municipality in the Srem District of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, Serbia. As of 2011, the town has a population of 30,076, while the municipality has a population of 54,339. History Traces of organized human life on the territory of Ruma municipality date back as far as prehistory. The most important archaeological locality in the municipality is Bronze Age Gomolava near Hrtkovci, with two exclusive tombs of Bosut culture dating to the 9th century BC and 3000BC Vučedol culture pottery. Ivan Knežević ( sr-Cyrl, Иван Кнежевић) (Popovi, Bijeljina, 1760 - Šabac, 29 June 1840) better known to the people as Knez Ivo of Semberija was a Serb voivode and duke over all the villages of the then Bijeljina Nahia, who most notably participated in the First Serbian Uprising. Stefan Stratimirović
Stefan Stratimirović ( sr, Стефан Стратимировић; 27 December 1757 – 22 September 1836) was a Serbian bishop who served as the Metropolitan of Karlovci, head of the Serbian Orthodox Church in the Austrian Empire, between 1790 and 1836. Having been appointed metropolitan at the age of 33, Stratimirović maintained control over church life decisively and autonomously. He was an aid to Serbian rebel leader Karađorđe during the First Serbian Uprising and actively participated in the suppression of Tican's Rebellion in 1807. Furthermore, he published Jovan Rajić's seminal work at a most propitious occasion. Aleksinac
Aleksinac ( sr-Cyrl, Алексинац) is a town and municipality located in the Nišava District of southern Serbia. According to 2011 census, the town has a population of 17,978 inhabitants, while the municipality has 51,863 inhabitants. History Prehistory and Antiquity The territory of the municipality of Aleksinac has been inhabited since the neolithic age. Most of the settlements in the area belong to the Vinča cultural group, and are located on the western side of the South Morava river. After the fall to the Romans this territory was included in the province Upper Moesia and after 293 AD it was in the Mediterranean province Dacia. A Roman military road ( Via Militaris) was built in 1st century AD across the territory. There were also two stations for rest ( mansio) and change of horses ( mutatio) along the road on the territory of Aleksinac: Praesidium Pompei and Rappiana.
