State Route 190 (SR 190) is a state highway that runs west–east mostly through F. D. Roosevelt State Park and Roosevelt's Little White House Historic Site. It is known as Scenic Heights Road and Pine Mountain Highway. It connects the Pine Mountain area and Manchester. It parallels the Pine Mountain Range for much of its length. Pine Mountain is a town in Harris and Meriwether counties in the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2020 census it had a population of 1,216. The Harris County portion of Pine Mountain is part of the Columbus, Georgia metropolitan area, while the small portion that extends into Meriwether County is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. History The town began in 1882 when the railroad spread to Pine Mountain from Columbus, and until 1958, the community was known as "Chipley". Civilian Conservation Corps
The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) was a voluntary government unemployment, work relief program that ran from 1933 to 1942 in the United States for unemployed, unmarried men ages 18–25 and eventually expanded to ages 17–28. The CCC was a major part of President Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal that supplied manual labor jobs related to the conservation and development of natural resources in rural lands owned by federal, state, and local governments. The CCC was designed to supply jobs for young men and to relieve families who had difficulty finding jobs during the Great Depression in the United States. There was eventually a smaller counterpart program for unemployed women called the She-She-She Camps, which were championed by Eleanor Roosevelt.
