Geneviève Bannon
Geneviève Bannon (born February 3, 1995) is a Canadian ice hockey forward, who last played with the Montréal section of the Professional Women's Hockey Players Association (PWHPA). Playing career Bannon began playing hockey at the age of four. She attended Collège Charles-Lemoyne before finishing her high school at the Ontario Hockey Academy. She then moved to the United States to attend Clarkson University, where she studied psychology and played for the university's women's hockey programme. Across 160 NCAA games with Clarkson, she scored 150 points, twice winning the NCAA championship. After graduating, she moved to Sweden to sign her first professional contract with newly-promoted Göteborg HC in the Swedish Women's Hockey League (, SDHL), and was named an assistant captain for the club. Châteauguay
Châteauguay ( , , ) is an off-island suburbs, off-island suburb of Montreal, in southwestern Quebec, located on both the Châteauguay River and Lake Saint-Louis, Lac St-Louis, which is a section of the St. Lawrence River. 2019–20 PWHPA Season
The 2019–20 PWHPA season was the first season organized by the Professional Women's Hockey Players Association (PWHPA). The organization was established after the collapse of the Canadian Women's Hockey League in May, 2019. The PWHPA organized a boycott of the National Women's Hockey League (NWHL) as part of its efforts to agitate for the establishment of a new, unified women's professional league. As part of its boycott, the PWHPA organized a series of exhibition games and events beginning in September 2019, which was ultimately cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020. Canadian Women's Hockey League
The Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL; ) was a women's ice hockey league. Established in 2007 as a Canadian women's Senior ice hockey, senior league in the Greater Toronto Area, Montreal, and Ottawa, the league expanded into Alberta (2011) and internationally in the United States (2010) and China (2017) throughout its tenure. 2018 CWHL Draft
The 2018 CWHL Draft, the ninth and final in league history, took place on August 26. It marked the first and only draft Jayna Hefford served as CWHL commissioner. The CWHL indicated that general managers were authorized to "pre-sign" their first and second round selections before the draft. The window for pre-signing expired on August 17. Lauren Williams, a Canadian player and alumna of the Wisconsin Badgers women's ice hockey program, was the first pick overall in the draft. 2017–18 SDHL Season
The 2017–18 SDHL season was the eleventh season of the Swedish Women's Hockey League (Svenska damhockeyligan, or SDHL). The season began in September 2017 and ended in March 2018. Significant events Pre-season After the end of the 2016–17 season, the IF Sundsvall Hockey organisation cut its women's side, despite having managed to save their place in the SDHL during the qualification playoffs the organisation citing a need to save money for its third-tier men's side. The club was criticised for the decision, with forward Mathilda Gustafsson stating that "If we were a company instead of an association, you would never shut down a department which only employed women because the cost inhibits the male employees." Goal (ice Hockey)
In ice hockey, a goal is scored when the puck entirely crosses the goal line between the two goal posts and below the goal crossbar. A goal awards one point to the team attacking the goal scored upon, regardless of which team the player who actually deflected the puck into the goal belongs to (see also own goal). Typically, a player on the team attempting to score shoots the puck with their stick towards the goal net opening, and a player on the opposing team called a goaltender tries to block the shot to prevent a goal from being scored against their team.
