Halland County (, ) is a county ('' län'') on the western coast of Sweden. It corresponds roughly to the cultural and historical province of Halland. The capital is Halmstad. Prince Julian, the son of Prince Carl Philip, is Duke of Halland. It borders the counties of Västra Götaland, Jönköping, Kronoberg, Scania and the sea of the Kattegat. Heraldry The County of Halland inherited its coat of arms from the province of Halland. When it is shown with a royal crown it represents the County Administrative Board. There are twenty-one counties; however, the number of counties has varied over time, due to territorial changes and to divisions or mergers of existing counties. Laholms Bay
Laholm Bay () is a bay of the Kattegat, between Tylösand in the north and Hovs Hallar in the south. The Bjäre Peninsula, which forms its southern edge, separates it from Skälder Bay. The border between Halland and Skåne counties reaches the bay between Båstad and Hemmeslövstrand. The bay is shallow with an average depth of about and a shoreline of about . Mighty dunes separate the beach from the rest of the coastal area. In the greater part of the bay, the bottom consists of sand and clay, with depths of . But a wide strip of rocky bottom, with depths of , extends south-southwestward from the northeastern part of the bay to Hovs Hallar. Halmstad Municipality
Halmstad Municipality () is a municipality in Halland County on the Swedish west coast, in which the city Halmstad is the seat. The 1971 local government reform was implemented gradually in the area. In 1967 the rural municipality ''Simlångsdalen'' (created in 1952) was amalgamated into the ''City of Halmstad''. The city was converted into a municipality of unitary type in 1971, but the seven surrounding municipalities were not merged into it until 1974. The Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (, SMHI) is a Swedish government agency and operates under the Ministry of Climate and Enterprise.
