General Escobedo, Nuevo León
General Escobedo, or simply Escobedo, is a city and municipality in Nuevo León, Mexico that is part of the Monterrey Metropolitan area. As of the census of 2005, the population was 295,131 in the city and 299,364 in the municipality. The municipality has an area of around 149 km² and shares borders to the south with San Nicolás de los Garza, Monterrey and Santa Catarina; to the north with Hidalgo and El Carmen; to the east with Apodaca and Salinas Victoria; and to the west with García. Escobedo is also the home of the Mexican Army's 7th Military Zone Army Base. Origin of the name The city was named after the General Mariano Escobedo. Escobedo was known as "Topo de los Ayala" and was under Monterrey's jurisdiction in 1830, it was until 1867 that it was separated from the San Nicolas de los Garza municipality under governor Jerónimo Treviño and was thus decreed on February 24, 1868 becoming the "Villa de Gral. Mariano Escobedo
Mariano Antonio Guadalupe Escobedo de la Peña (16 January 1826 – 22 May 1902) was a Mexican Army general and Governor of Nuevo León. Early life Mariano Escobedo was born in San Pablo de los Labradores (which is today known as Galeana), Nuevo León on 16 January 1826. He was the youngest of six children born to Manuel Escobedo and Rita de la Peña. Career Escobedo was a muleteer. In 1854 he defended from the liberal rows the Plan of Ayutla that ended the dictatorship of Antonio López de Santa Anna. In 1861, Escobedo was made a brigadier general after the government of Juarez was established. He took part in the Battle of Puebla on 5 May 1862, in Puebla, where thanks to his bravery, was promoted to colonel of cavalry. Pharr is a city in Hidalgo County, Texas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the city population was 79,715, and in 2022, the estimated population was 80,187. Pharr is connected by bridge to the Mexican city of Reynosa, Tamaulipas. Pharr is part of the McAllen–Edinburg–Mission and Reynosa–McAllen metropolitan areas.
