Gaëlle Arquez
Gaëlle Arquez (born 1983) is a French operatic mezzo-soprano. Life and career Arquez was born in Saintes from a father with Spanish origins and a Malagasy mother. After spending her early childhood in Ivory Coast, she returned to Saintes, where at the age of 10 she took piano lessons at the town's conservatory. She graduated in musicology and studied singing at the Conservatoire de Paris. Her teachers included Malcolm Walker, Kenneth Weiss, Jeff Cohen and Susan McCulloch. In 2007 and 2008, she toured France singing the title role in Ravel's ''L'enfant et les sortilèges''. In 2009, she took on the title role in Janáček's ''The Cunning Little Vixen'' in a conservatoire production in Paris, which was subsequently also shown at the Théâtre Royal de Wallonie in Liège and the Reims Opera House. Mezzo-soprano
A mezzo-soprano (, ), or mezzo ( ), is a type of classical music, classical female singing human voice, voice whose vocal range lies between the soprano and the contralto voice types. The mezzo-soprano's vocal range usually extends from the A below middle C to the A two octaves above (i.e. A3–A5 in scientific pitch notation, where middle C = C4; 220–880 Hz). In the lower and upper extremes, some mezzo-sopranos may extend down to the F below middle C (F3, 175 Hz) and as high as "high C" (C6, 1047 Hz). Opéra De Lille
The Opéra de Lille is a neo-classical opera house, built from 1907 to 1913 and officially inaugurated in 1923. Closed for renovation in 1998 it reopened in 2003 for Lille 2004. The Opéra de Lille is a member of the European Network for Opera, Music and Dance Education ( RESEO), and of Opera Europa. It is served by the metro stations Gare Lille-Flandres and Rihour. History Lille became French in 1668 through the Aix-la-Chapelle treaty. The classical singing activity grew quickly. Shows are organised in the city hall by the composer Pascal Collasse. In 1700, the opera room is destroyed and rebuilt thanks to a gift of 90,000 florins by Louis XIV. Idomeneo
(Italian for ''Idomeneus, King of Crete, or, Ilia and Idamante''; usually referred to simply as ''Idomeneo'', Köchel catalogue, K. 366) is an Italian-language opera seria by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The libretto was adapted by Giambattista Varesco from a French text by Antoine Danchet, based on a 1705 play by Prosper Jolyot de Crébillon , Crébillion père, which had been set to music by André Campra as ''Idoménée'' in 1712. Mozart and Varesco were commissioned in 1780 by Charles Theodore, Elector of Bavaria, Karl Theodor, Elector of Bavaria for a court carnival. He probably chose the subject, though it may have been Mozart. The work premiered on 29 January 1781 at the Cuvilliés Theatre in Munich, Germany. The Oper Frankfurt (Frankfurt Opera) is a German opera company based in Frankfurt. Opera in Frankfurt am Main has a long tradition, with many world premieres such as Franz Schreker's ''Der ferne Klang'' in 1912, ''Fennimore and Gerda, Fennimore und Gerda'' by Frederick Delius in 1919, and Carl Orff's ''Carmina Burana (Orff), Carmina Burana'' in 1937. ''Teseo'' ("Theseus", HWV 9; ) is an opera seria with music by George Frideric Handel, the only Handel opera that is in five acts. The Italian-language libretto was by Nicola Francesco Haym, after Philippe Quinault's '' Thésée''. It was Handel's third London opera, intended to follow the success of '' Rinaldo'' after the unpopular ''Il pastor fido''. First performed on 10 January 1713,''Teseo'' featured "magical" effects such as flying dragons, transformation scenes and apparitions and had a cast of notable Italian opera singers. Giuseppe Verdi
Giuseppe Fortunino Francesco Verdi ( ; ; 9 or 10 October 1813 – 27 January 1901) was an Italian composer best known for List of compositions by Giuseppe Verdi, his operas.
