GaySurfers.net is a global online community that promotes diversity within the surfing community and provide the means for LGBTQ people who are surfers to connect. This social media website was featured in the award-winning documentary film '' Out in the Lineup''. History GaySurfers.net was created in 2010 by Thomas Castets, who also produced the ''Out in the Lineup'', a documentary that explores homophobia in the surfing community. Castets, a surfer from Sydney, Australia, created the website hoping to find out if there were any other gay surfers. Within weeks of launching the website, more than 300 surfers contacted him. Athlete Ally is a nonprofit LGBTQ athletic advocacy group based in the United States. The group aims to make athletic communities more inclusive and less discriminatory and help athletes to advocate for LGBT movements, LGBTQ equality. History As an athlete in high school and college, Hudson Taylor (wrestler), Hudson Taylor often observed the use of Homophobia, homophobic language and demeaning humor, especially in sports. Soon after enrolling at the University of Maryland, he befriended LGBT students in his theatre classes and became increasingly aware of the pain caused by homophobic behavior. Hudson, who is not gay, felt it was imperative that he confront the marginalization of LGBT athletes, coaches and others through systemic homophobia and transphobia. He decided to take action as a straight ally to change athletic culture for the better.
