Garwitz
Garwitz is a district of the municipality of Lewitzrand in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. Geography Garwitz is located about nine kilometers northwest of the district town of Parchim and 24 kilometers southeast of Schwerin on the edge of the Lewitz region. South of the village, the Elde river and an old arm of this river run. The village is surrounded by meadows and farmland to the west and south. To the east, there is a larger forested area. The terrain slopes from approximately 44 meters above Normalnull, NN in the northern part of the built-up area to about 38 meters towards the Elde river. History The first documented mention of the village as ''Garseviz'' dates back to 1278. The Gothic church was built in the 14th century. The lock is a structure from 1891 to 1894. The bridge to the neighboring village of Matzlow, dating from 1922, was blown up by German troops on May 4, 1945. A replacement bridge was opened in 1951. Since 1958, land ... Bundesautobahn 24
is an autobahn in northern Germany that connects the large metropolitan regions of Hamburg and Berlin. It was one of the three transit access roads to West Berlin during the Cold War. On that road, there is a 150 km (93 mi) long section that has no speed limit at all (only a recommended speed of 130 km/h), which means that about 65% of that Autobahn can be driven at very high speed. History Planning for the autobahn began as far back as the 1930s; before World War II numerous bridges and sections of roadside shoulder were built between Hamburg and Berlin. The German divide, however, put a hold on further work and it was not until 1978 that construction was resumed, carried out by a GDR work force and paid for by West Germany. Georg Dehio
Georg Gottfried Julius Dehio (22 November 1850 – 21 March 1932), was a Baltic German art historian. In 1900, Dehio started the "''Handbuch der deutschen Kunstgeschichte''" (Handbook of German Art History), published by Ernst Wasmuth Verlag, Ernst Wasmuth. The project is ongoing and managed by the 'Dehio-Vereinigung', Munich. He gave his name to the Georg Dehio Prize (Georg Dehio Book Prize). Dehio was born in Reval (Tallinn), then part of the Russian Empire. He died in Tübingen, Germany. He was laureate of the Pour le Mérite order (Pour le Mérite, "Pour le Mérite für Wissenschaften und Künste"), the Eagle Shield of the German Empire (Adlerschild des Deutschen Reiches) and the Bavarian Maximilian Order for Science and Art. Gothic Architecture
Gothic architecture is an architectural style that was prevalent in Europe from the late 12th to the 16th century, during the High Middle Ages, High and Late Middle Ages, surviving into the 17th and 18th centuries in some areas.
