Gardénia Benrós
Gardénia Benrós is a Cape Verdean singer. Biography Gardénia Benrós was born in the city of Praia, to parents from Brava Island, the island of flowers. She became part of the Tropical Power project in 1983 after she immigrated to Rhode Island in the United States. She later recorded her first studio album. She was Miss Pawtucket city, also she was Miss Ocean State, Rhode Island. She won an award for Best Female Singer at Talent America in New York City and a photographic award for best model. Benrós débuted at Casino do Estoril in Portugal. She signed with Polygram Records in 1986 and launched an album produced by Paulino Vieira and with the Eugénio Tavares repertory. She recorded an English language song "When Live is Gone" on Polygram, she took part in a Cape Verdean film and made her first music video "Oh Mar" taken from her début album. Manuel De Novas
Manuel d' Novas (February 24, 1938 — September 28, 2009) was a Cape Verdean poet and composer. Biography Manuel Jesus Lopes was born in Penha da França, one of the neighbourhoods of Ribeira Grande on the island of Santo Antão, he became one of the most important poets and composers of Cape Verde. His music is known all over the world, through performers like Cesária Évora, Bana and others. He lived in Mindelo on the island of São Vicente. He visited 35 Rua de Moeda where other Cape Verdean musicians visited including Bana. He took part in the 2003 Baía das Gatas Music Festival. Manuel died on September 27, 2009, from a stroke he suffered for three years that started in Portugal, after staying at the hospital named Baptista de Sousa for about a week. Eugénia Melo e Castro, born Maria Eugénia Menéres de Melo e Castro ( Covilhã, 6 June 1958) is a Portuguese singer-songwriter. Personal life Eugénia was born in the city of Covilhã, central inland Portugal, in 1958, and lived in the city until she was 15. She left the city for studying in Lisbon. Teófilo Chantre
Teófilo Chantre (born 1964) is a Cape Verdean musician, first noted for his decades long collaboration with singer Cesaría Évora, and later for his own recordings. Life He was born on the island of São Nicolau, growing up with his grandparents on São Vicente Island after his parents left to find work in Europe, a common occurrence in the country. His father ended up in Rotterdam and his mother settled in Paris after a time in Hamburg. He moved to be with his mother at age 14, but he missed his grandparents, leading to an attachment to the concept of ''saudade'', the Portuguese word for longing and present in much Cabo Verde music. He learned the guitar at age 16 and continues to live in France. Career Chantre first became known for his work composing songs for Cape Verde singer Cesária Évora, who he met in Paris in the 1990s, after a concert both performed in.
