Garden Prairie is an Unincorporated area, unincorporated former village and census-designated place located in Boone County, Illinois, Boone County, Illinois, United States. It is part of the Rockford, Illinois Rockford metropolitan area, Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Garden Prairie was originally called Amesville, in honor of a pioneer settler. The present name refers to the fertility of their surrounding land on the prairie. A post office was established as Amesville in 1838, and renamed Garden Prairie in 1853. On February 2, 2010, residents voted 57–46 to dissolve the village, only 2 years after incorporating by a 62 - 44 vote on February 5, 2008. U.S. Route 20 or U.S. Highway 20 (US 20) is an east–west United States Numbered Highway that stretches from the Pacific Northwest east to New England. The "0" in its route number indicates that US 20 is a major coast-to-coast route. Caledonia is a village in Caledonia Township, Boone County, Illinois, United States. It is part of the Rockford, Illinois Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 183 at the 2020 census. History A post office was established as Caledonia Station in 1853, one year before the settlement was established. Caledonia Station was shortened to Caledonia in 1883. Caledonia is a literary name of Scotland. Caledonia Congregational Church was founded in 1894. In 1996, Caledonia was officially incorporated as a village. Poplar Grove (founded in 1859) is a village located in Boone County, Illinois, United States. It is part of the Rockford Metropolitan Statistical Area, and of the gated community Candlewick Lake. The population was 5,049 at the 2020 census. History Poplar Grove was named in 1845 for a grove of poplar trees near the original town site. A post office called Poplar Grove has been in operation since 1848. January 2008 tornado On January 7, 2008, on an unusually warm day which saw temperatures reach the mid , a tornado struck northern Illinois, including Poplar Grove and Candlewick Lake. The tornado severely damaged a favorite local attraction, Edward's Apple Orchard. There was one serious injury reported and the damage was widespread. The population was 2000 at the 2020 census, up from 1,376 at the 2010 census. History The oldest known structure in the area, now known as the Capron Lutheran Church, was built in 1844.
