Gapminder
Gapminder Foundation is a non-profit venture registered in Stockholm, Sweden, that promotes sustainable global development and achievement of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals by increased use and understanding of statistics and other information about social, economic, and environmental development at local, national, and global levels. Gapminder was founded in 2005 by Ola Rosling, Anna Rosling Rönnlund, and Hans Rosling. The name Gapminder was derived from the "Mind the Gap" warning messages on the London Underground. Overview The Foundation initially developed the Trendalyzer software, which produced the now famous animated bubble graph. This software was acquired by Google in March 2006. The team of developers for Gapminder joined Google in April 2007. Hans Rosling
Hans Rosling (; 27 July 1948 – 7 February 2017) was a Swedish physician, academic and public speaker. He was a professor of international health at Karolinska Institute and was the co-founder and chairman of the Gapminder Foundation, which developed the Trendalyzer software system. He held presentations around the world, including several TED Talks in which he promoted the use of data (and data visualization) to explore development issues. His posthumously published book '' Factfulness'', coauthored with his daughter-in-law Anna Rosling Rönnlund and son Ola Rosling, became an international bestseller. Life and career Rosling was born in Uppsala, Sweden, on 28 July 1948. Trendalyzer
Trendalyzer is an information visualization software for animation of statistics that was initially developed by Hans Rosling's Gapminder Foundation in Sweden. In March 2007 it was acquired by Google Inc. The current beta version is a Flash application that is preloaded with statistical and historical data about the development of the countries of the world. The information visualization technique used by Trendalyzer is an interactive bubble chart. By default it shows five variables: Two numeric variables on the X and Y axes, bubble size and colour, and a time variable that may be manipulated with a slider. Ola Rosling
Ola Rosling (born 1 November 1975 in Uppsala, Sweden) is a Swedish statistician known for his work for the Gapminder Foundation on changing global quality of life. He is the chairman, director and co-founder of the foundation. Career Rosling co-founded the Gapminder Foundation together with his wife Anna Rosling Rönnlund and his father Hans Rosling. Ola led the development of the Trendalyzer software that creates interactive graphics from statistical datasets. Anna Rosling Rönnlund
Anna Rosling Rönnlund (born April 4, 1975) is a Swedish designer who, with her husband Ola Rosling, developed Trendalyzer, interactive software for visualizing statistical information. After Trendalyzer was sold to Google in 2007, the couple continued work on its development until August 2010. In 2005, together with statistician and father-in-law Hans Rosling, she co-founded the Gapminder Foundation, where she serves as vice president for design and usability. In 2016, she announced Dollar Street, a website that imagines a street of homes to help visualize how people of varying cultures and incomes live around the world. In 2017, she spoke at the TED conference where she explained the power of Data visualization.
