Gan Ping Sieu
Gan Ping Sieu ( zh, t=顏炳壽, s=颜炳寿, j=Ngaan4 Bing2 Sau6, poj=Gân Péng-siū, born April 18, 1966) is a Malaysian politician. He was elected as the Johor State Legislative Assemblyman for Mengkibol for one term from 2004 to 2008. He is a member of the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA), a major component party in the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition. From 2010 to 2013, he served as a Senator and Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports. Background Kluang-born Gan Ping Sieu comes from a family with a long tradition of serving the community in the town and its surrounding areas. One of his uncles had served as a Kluang Member of Parliament, while another had served as an Assemblyman for Paloh. Ping Sieu's late father was a pioneer MCA member and a well-respected figure within Kluang Chinese society circles. Democratic Action Party
The Democratic Action Party (DAP; ) is a social democracy, social democratic and Secularism, secular political party in Malaysia, sitting on the Centre-left politics, centre-left of the political spectrum. As one of four component parties of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition, it formed the federal government after defeating Barisan Nasional (BN) in the 2018 Malaysian general election, ending the party's 53 year-long stay in the opposition. However, before the coalition finished its first term, defections from partnering parties caused it to lose power after 22 months, culminating in the 2020 Malaysian political crisis. National Service Training Programme (Malaysia)
The National Service Training Programme, or Program Latihan Khidmat Negara (PLKN), known locally as the ''Khidmat Negara'' ("National Service") was Malaysia's national service program under the Barisan Nasional (BN) government. The programme was handled by the National Service Training Department, or ''Jabatan Latihan Khidmat Negara'' (JLKN) under the Minister of Defence (Malaysia), Minister of Defence (MINDEF). The conscripts are 18-year-old youths that are selectively conscription, drafted. The three-month program, which started in December 2003, began as way to encourage friendship between youths of certain ages from different races and ethnic groups and address concerns that the country's multi-ethnic and multi-cultural groups who were seen of "becoming increasingly isolated from one another".
