''GameTrailers'' (''GT'') was an American video gaming website created by Geoffrey R. Grotz and Brandon Jones in 2002. The website specialized in multimedia content, including trailers and gameplay footage of upcoming and recently released video games, as well as an array of original video content focusing on video games, including reviews, countdown shows, and other web series. ''GameTrailers'' was acquired by Viacom in November 2005; under its ownership, ''GameTrailers'' also produced a television series, '' GameTrailers TV with Geoff Keighley'', for sister property Spike TV. In 2014, the site was acquired by Defy Media. In February 2016, the site was shut down; rights to ''GameTrailers''' brand and content were sold to IGN Entertainment, which continues to run its YouTube channel. ''GameTrailers TV with Geoff Keighley'' (or ''GT.TV'') is a television show about video games hosted by video game journalist Geoff Keighley. Originally titled ''Game Head'', on January 25, 2008, the show relaunched under its current name with a slightly different format and further incorporation of ''GameTrailers'' hosts, Amanda MacKay and Daniel Kayser. The series ran from 2008–2013, with the ''GameTrailers'' site being shut down in 2016. Series overview In the program, host Geoff Keighley, along with his correspondents, are seen on location at video game companies or interviewing with special guests while divulging exclusive information on upcoming video games. Geoff Keighley ( ; born ) is a Canadian video game journalist and television presenter, best known for his role as the host of several video game industry conferences and presentations. He is the executive producer and host of the Game Awards since its inception in 2014, having previously served as the executive producer of the Spike (TV network), Spike VGX (award show), Video Game Awards. He also hosts and produces Summer Game Fest, and has hosted live events for Trade show, trades fairs Gamescom and the now-defunct E3. ''Angry Video Game Nerd'' (''AVGN''; originally known as ''The Angry Nintendo Nerd'') is an American retrogaming review comedy web series starring and created by James Rolfe. The series centers on Rolfe's titular skit character, often simply shortened to "the Nerd" (sometimes just "Nerd"), a short-tempered and foul-mouthed gamer who delivers commentary on List of video games notable for negative reception, retro games of poor quality. Viacom (2005–2019)
The second incarnation of Viacom Inc. ( or ; a portmanteau of Video & Audio Communications) was an American multinational mass media and entertainment conglomerate with interests primarily in film and television. It was split from the original Viacom on December 31, 2005 alongside the second incarnation of CBS Corporation. The controlling shareholder of both companies was National Amusements, a theater company headed by businessman Sumner Redstone. The split was structured so that the original Viacom changed its name to CBS Corporation and spun out its cable and film interests as a new Viacom.
