Gabriele Becker
Gabriele Becker (born 17 April 1975) is a German former track and field sprinter who competed mainly over 100 metres. She represented her country at the 1995 World Championships in Athletics and won a bronze medal in the relay. Born in Marburg, Becker took up track and field at a young age and trained at the LAZ Bruchköbel sports club. Initially she took part in a variety of events and completed youth heptathlons, but soon focused on sprinting instead. Athletics is a group of sporting events that involves competitive running, jumping and throwing. The most common types of athletics competitions are track and field, road running, cross country running, cross-country running, and racewalking. The results of racing events are decided by finishing position (or time, where measured), while the jumps and throws are won by the athlete that achieves the highest or furthest measurement from a series of attempts. 200 Metres
The 200 metres, or 200-meter dash, is a sprint running event. On an outdoor 400-metre racetrack, the race begins on the curve and ends on the home straight, so a combination of techniques is needed to successfully run the race. A slightly shorter race, called the '' stadion'' and run on a straight track, was the first recorded event at the ancient Olympic Games. The 200 m places more emphasis on speed endurance than shorter sprint distances as athletes predominantly rely on anaerobic energy system during the 200 m sprint. Similarly to other sprint distances, the 200 m begins from the starting blocks. When the sprinters adopt the 'set' position in the blocks they are able to adopt a more efficient starting posture and isometrically preload their muscles. This enables them to stride forwards more powerfully when the race begins and start faster. Silke-Beate Knoll
Silke-Beate Knoll (born 21 February 1967 in Rottweil) is a former German track and field athlete and participant in the Olympic Games who had success in the 1980s and 1990s as a sprinter. Her first success was the 1986 German junior title over 200 metres. As part of the 4 × 200 metres relay team of the SC Eintracht Hamm, she set a world indoor record in 1988. Her greatest successes were the bronze medal in the 4 × 100 metres relay race at the 1995 World Championships (together with Melanie Paschke, Silke Lichtenhagen and Gabriele Becker) and the gold medal at the 1994 European Championships in the same event (together with Melanie Paschke, Bettina Zipp and Silke Lichtenhagen).
