Grupo Desportivo Palmeira ( Capeverdean Crioulo, ALUPEC or ALUPEK: ''Palméra'', also in the Sal Crioulo) is a football club that had played in the Premier division and plays in the Sal Island League in Cape Verde. It is based in the town of Santa Maria and plays in its municipal stadium north of the town center. Palmeira is the fourth successful football (soccer) club on the island, having won 8 official regional titles. Origin of the name The name mainly originates from several palms in the area, one area, there are palms on Avenida Amílcar Cabral today, since there is a village name Palmeira in the west of the island which has the same origin, the team does not owe its name from a village on the same island. The Sal Island Cup (Portuguese language, Portuguese: ''Taça da Ilha do Sal'', Capeverdean Crioulo languages, Capeverdean Crioulo, Sal Creole: Taça Dja d' Sal, ALUPEC or ALUPEK: ''Tasa da Dja du Sal'') is a cup competition played during the season in the island of Sal, Cape Verde, Sal, Cape Verde, it consists of all the clubs from all the two regional divisions and are divided into about five to six rounds. The competition is organized by the Sal Regional Football Association (Associação Regional de Futebol de Sal, ARFS). The cup winner competed in the regional super cup final in the following season. 2023 Cape Verdean Football Championships
The 2023 Cape Verdean Football Championships was a season of top-flight football in Cape Verde. The championship final match between GD Palmeira and Académica do Mindelo was the second straight year both teams appeared in the final, and featured two teams from the island of Sal for only the third time ever. GD Palmeira won their first ever championship after defeating Académica 7:6 on penalties after playing to a 1–1 draw. Latche scored a free kick for Palmeiras in the 89th minute to send the match to penalty kicks. The final was played on the island of Maio. The national stage of the competition featured a group stage followed by a semi-final. Mindelense qualified for the finals after only five matches out of group A. 2000 Cape Verdean Football Championships
The 2000 Cape Verdean Football Championship season was the 21st of the competition of the first-tier football in Cape Verde. The competition started on 13 August and finished on 10 September, it started and finished later due to the 2000 Amílcar Cabral Cup that took place at Estádio da Várzea from May 4 to 14. The Sal Island Super Cup ( Portuguese: ''Super Copa da Ilha do Sal'', Capeverdean Crioulo, ALUPEC or ALUPEK: ''Super Kopa da Idja du Sal'', Sal Crioulo: ''Super Taça Dja d'Sal'' São Vicente Crioulo: ''Super Kopa da Ilha d' Sal'') is a SuperCup competition played during the season in the island of Sal, Cape Verde. The competition is organized by the Sal Regional Football Association (Associação Regional de Futebol de Sal, ARFS). The regional winner competes with the cup winner.
