Gruppo Calcio Castelnuovo Del Garda, commonly known as GC Castelnuovo D/G or Castelnuovo (), is an Italian football club based in Castelnuovo del Garda, Veneto, who compete in Promozione, the sixth tier of the Italian football league system. Founded in 1965 and re-established in 2005 as ''CastelnuovoSandrà'' through a merger with another team based in Castelnuovo del Garda, the club reached Serie D for the first time in 2011, but was relegated back to Eccellenza shortly thereafter, falling down again into the lower tiers of Italian football. Promozione
The Promozione (, "promotion") is the sixth level in the Italian football league system. Each individual league winner within the Promozione level progresses to their closest regional league in the Eccellenza level. Depending on each league's local rules, a number of teams each year are relegated from each league, to the 7th level of Italian football, the Prima Categoria. This level of Italian football is completely amateur and is run on a regional level. History in brief In the past, from 1904 to 1912, the Seconda Categoria had been the second level of Italian local regional tournaments in which main teams used to field apprentices and reserves. New teams entering F.I.F. (Italian Football Federation; FIF was the old name of F.I.G.C. up to 1909) were added to those championships. Castelnuovo Del Garda
Castelnuovo del Garda is an Italian ''comune'' (municipality), in the Province of Verona, in Veneto, on a couple of morainic hills a few kilometers south-east of Lake Garda. Verona is about 20 km to the east, Venice is 140 km east and Milan 140 km west. Castelnuovo del Garda has a short beach on the lake, between the municipalities of Peschiera del Garda and Lazise. The Italian football league system, also known as the Italian football pyramid, refers to the hierarchically interconnected league system for association football in Italy. It consists of nine national and regional tournaments, the first three being professional, while the remaining six are amateur, set up by the Italian Football Federation. One team from San Marino also competes. The system has a hierarchical format with promotion and relegation between different divisions. The Serie D () is the highest level of semi-professional football in Italy, and the fourth tier of the Italian national league system. It sits beneath the third and lowest fully professional league, Serie C, and feeds in to it through promotion and relegation. Serie D is administered by the Lega Nazionale Dilettanti and is organized by the Roman ''Comitato Interregionale'' (Interregional Committee), a "league in the league" inside the LND.
