Fruholmen Lighthouse
Fruholmen Lighthouse ( no, Fruholmen fyr, former name ''Norskholmen fyr'') is a coastal lighthouse located in Måsøy Municipality in Troms og Finnmark county, Norway. It sits on a tiny islet just off the northern coast of the island of Ingøya. History The lighthouse was established in 1866 and it is the northernmost lighthouse in Norway. This is the first of the three major lighthouses that guide ships around the North Cape into the Barents Sea, and it is actually the northernmost of the three. The original cast iron lighthouse was destroyed during World War II. The current lighthouse was completed in 1949. The tall square white concrete tower has a red lantern on top. The light in the lantern flashes white every 20 seconds. There is a secondary light located lower in elevation that flashes white, red or green light depending on direction, occulting three times every 10 seconds. Candela
The candela ( or ; symbol: cd) is the unit of luminous intensity in the International System of Units (SI). It measures luminous power per unit solid angle emitted by a light source in a particular direction. Luminous intensity is analogous to radiant intensity, but instead of simply adding up the contributions of every wavelength of light in the source's spectrum, the contribution of each wavelength is weighted by the standard luminosity function (a model of the sensitivity of the human eye to different wavelengths). Ingøya
Ingøya ( sme, Fávle-Iččát) is an island on the edge of the Arctic Ocean in Måsøy Municipality in Troms og Finnmark county, Norway. The island lies just north of the island of Rolvsøya and west of the island of Hjelmsøya. The sparsely populated island is only accessible by boat. There are regular ferry connections at the port in the village of Ingøy on the north side of the island. The ferry connects to Gunnarnes on Rolvsøya and Havøysund on the island of Havøya. The island has about 13 inhabitants (2022). The Ingøy radio transmitter is located about south of the village of Ingøy. Fruholmen Lighthouse lies just off the northern coast of the island. North Cape (Norway)
North Cape ( no, Nordkapp; sme, Davvenjárga) is a cape on the northern coast of the island of Magerøya in Northern Norway. The cape is in Nordkapp Municipality in Troms og Finnmark county, Norway. The European route E69 highway has its northern terminus at North Cape, which makes it the northernmost point in Europe that can be accessed by car and makes the E69 the northernmost public road in Europe. The plateau is a popular tourist attraction. Occulting Light
A light characteristic is all of the properties that make a particular navigational light identifiable. Graphical and textual descriptions of navigational light sequences and colours are displayed on nautical charts and in Light Lists with the chart symbol for a lighthouse, lightvessel, buoy or sea mark with a light on it. Different lights use different colours, frequencies and light patterns, so mariners can identify which light they are seeing. Lighthouses In Norway
The coast of Norway is 100,915 km long and there have been a total of 212 lighthouses along it, but no more than 154 have ever been operational at the same time. The first, Lindesnes Lighthouse, opened in 1655; the newest Lighthouse, Anda, was finished in 1932. The first Lighthouses were private operations, but in 1821 the government made the Channel and Harbor Inspector responsible for Lighthouses in Norway. A dedicated Lighthouse Administration was set up in 1841. The Lighthouses are today mostly automated and since 1974, run by the Norwegian Coastal Administration. Two lightvessels had been operated along the Norwegian coast.
