Fraubrunnen District
Fraubrunnen District was one of the 26 administrative districts in the canton of Bern, Switzerland. Its capital was the municipality of Fraubrunnen. The district had an area of 124 km² and consisted of 27 municipalities A municipality is usually a single administrative division having corporate status and powers of self-government or jurisdiction as granted by national and regional laws to which it is subordinate. Iffwil
Iffwil is a municipality in the Bern-Mittelland administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. History Iffwil is first mentioned in 1148 as ''Iffenwilere''. Scattered neolithic items were found around the municipality and a Hallstatt grave mound was discovered in the Iffwilerwald. A castle was mentioned near the village in 1346, though only the foundations remain. During the Middle Ages, a number of landowners owned part or all of the village, including the Counts of Kyburg and the Lords of Jegistorf and Seedorf. In 1332 the Lords of Seedorf sold land and the village low court to citizens of Bern. Between 1334 and 1361 most of these citizens sold or donated their holdings in the village to the ''Niedere Spital'' (Lower Hospital) in Bern. The Hospital appointed an administrator to manage the estates in Iffwil. The village of ''dorf ze Ober Iffwil'' (Upper Iffwil village) was last mentioned in 1356. Wiggiswil
Wiggiswil is a municipality in the Bern-Mittelland administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. History Wiggiswil is first mentioned in 1219 as ''Wigersvile''. The oldest trace of a settlement in the area comes from scattered prehistoric flint tools which were found around the Moossee. Roman era artifacts have been discovered in Wiggiswil village and at Seerain. Throughout its history Wiggiswil has always been dependent on the neighboring village of Deisswil bei Münchenbuchsee. Even in the 21st century, the two small municipalities share a single town council. It is part of the parish of Münchenbuchsee. In 1973 the A6 motorway was built through the municipality. The motorway connects Wiggiswil to the cities of Bern and Biel/Bienne, however, the village has remained mostly agricultural. Utzenstorf
Utzenstorf is a municipality in the administrative district of Emmental in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. It is regionally famous for its medieval castle, Landshut Castle. History Utzenstorf is first mentioned in 1175 as ''Uzansdorf''. The oldest trace of a settlement in the municipality is the neolithic hilltop settlement at Bürglenhubel. The Bürglenhubel site includes traces of an earthen wall, turf houses and flint tools. There are several other prehistoric sites in the municipality, including scatter neolithic items at Lindenrain and a La Tene culture grave at Schnäggefeld. Urtenen-Schönbühl
Urtenen-Schönbühl is a municipality in the Bern-Mittelland administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. History The oldest trace of a settlement in the area are some neolithic artifacts which were discovered at Längenrüpp and Schönbühl. Prehistoric Hallstatt era grave mounds were found at Sand, Junkerenholz, Rödelberg and Bubenloowald along with a prehistoric cemetery at near the Oberdorfstrasse-Lindholenweg roads. Roman era ruins were discovered at Moossee. The village of Urtenen is first mentioned in 1249, as ''Urtinun''; it was owned by the Counts of Kyburg. Between 1371 and 1374 the village was acquired by Bernese patrician families. Over the following centuries, the von Diesbach, von Bonstetten, Willading and von Erlach families owned part or all of the village along with the neighboring village of Mattstetten. Münchenbuchsee is a municipality in the Bern-Mittelland administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. It is famous as the birthplace of the painter Paul Klee. On 1 January 2023 the former municipality of Diemerswil merged to form the municipality of Münchenbuchsee. Moosseedorf
Moosseedorf is a municipality in the Bern-Mittelland administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. The village is located south of Moossee, the lake that gives it its name.
