Fraser Coast
The Fraser Coast Region is a local government area in the Wide Bay–Burnett region of Queensland, Australia, about north of Brisbane, the state capital. It is centred on the twin cities of Hervey Bay and Maryborough and also contains Fraser Island. It was created in 2008 from a merger of the Cities of Maryborough and Hervey Bay and the Shires of Woocoo and most of Tiaro. In June 2018 it had a population of 105,463. The 2021-2022 budget of the Fraser Coast Regional Council is A$387 million. History Butchulla (also known as Batjala, Badtjala, Badjela and Badjala) is the language of the Fraser Coast region, including Fraser Island. City Of Maryborough (Queensland)
The City of Maryborough was a local government area located in the Wide Bay–Burnett region of Queensland, Australia, containing the urban locality of Maryborough as well as the southern half of Fraser Island (also known as K'Gari and Gari). The City covered an area of , and existed as a local government entity from 1861 until 2008, when it was amalgamated with the City of Hervey Bay, Shire of Woocoo and the 1st and 2nd divisions of the Shire of Tiaro to form the Fraser Coast Region. History Wharves were established at Maryborough in 1847–1848 to provide transport for wool from sheep stations on the Burnett River. Shire Of Biggenden
The Shire of Biggenden was a local government area located in the northern catchment of the Burnett River, Queensland, Australia, south-southwest of the regional city of Bundaberg. The shire covered an area of , and existed as a local government area from 1905 until 2008, when it amalgamated with several other shires to become the North Burnett Region. Primary production is the most significant industry in the region with beef and dairy cattle being predominant. Other agricultural pursuits include grain crops, piggeries, peanuts, citrus and timber. The area is also rich in minerals. Biggenden Mine is located from Biggenden along the Isis Highway. Gold, bismuth and more recently magnetite have been extracted from the mine. The Shire of Isis was a local government area located in the Wide Bay–Burnett region of Queensland, Australia, to the south of Bundaberg. The Shire, administered from the town of Childers covered an area of , and existed as a local government entity from 1887 until 2008, when it was amalgamated with the City of Bundaberg and the Shires of Burnett and Kolan to form the Bundaberg Region. The Separation of Queensland was an event in 1859 in which the land that forms the present-day State of Queensland in Australia was excised from the Colony of New South Wales and created as a separate Colony of Queensland. History European settlement of Queensland began in 1824 when Lieutenant Henry Miller, commanding a detachment of the 40th Regiment of Foot, founded a convict outpost at Redcliffe. The settlement was transferred to the north bank of the Brisbane River the following year and continued to operate as a penal establishment until 1842, when the remaining convicts were withdrawn and the district opened to free settlement. By then squatters had already established themselves on the Darling Downs, far distant from the seat of the New South Wales government in Sydney. Howard, Queensland
Howard is a rural town and locality in the Fraser Coast Region, Queensland, Australia. It is a southern boundary of the Dundaburra peoples of the Northern Kabi Kabi Isis districts and surrounds. In the , Howard had a population of 1,359 people. It is located north of Brisbane and west of Hervey Bay. Geography The Bruce Highway passes through the locality in an east–west direction skirting the edge of the town. Queensland's North Coast railway line passes in a NW-SE direction through the town centre with Howard railway station () serving the town. The main streets of Howard are Steley and William.
