František Ringo Čech
František Ringo Čech (born 9 July 1943) is a Czech musician, songwriter, painter, actor, comedian, publicist, politician, dramatist, screenwriter, and author. Life and career Early musical career: 1959–1965 František Čech was born in Prague in 1943 to František Čech Pražský, a musician of Viennese origin. From 1959 to 1963, he worked as a radio mechanic and television technician, while playing drums in various Dixieland and brass ensembles, such as Storyville Jazz, which also included Ivan Mládek and Ivo Pešák. In 1963, he cofounded the rock band Olympic together with Jaromír Klempíř, and began writing song lyrics for the first time. He studied drums at the Prague Conservatory from 1963 to 1965, as well as folklore, piano, and recorder. In December 1965, he travelled to the United States with the Jiří Srnec black light theatre, where his wife, Magda, performed, thus ending his stint with Olympic. Jiří Schelinger
Jiří Schelinger (6 March 1951 – 13 April 1981) was a Czech rock singer and guitarist considered to have been the first Czech hard rocker and an influential musician to this day. Biography Schelinger was born in the village of Bousov in 1951. His father, Josef (1921–1995), was a well-known concert guitarist and guitar teacher, and his mother, Miloslava (1929–2007), worked as a florist. He had a younger brother, Milan Schelinger, who was also a musician. As a child, Schelinger played piano, and later guitar. His first band, in which he played while still in elementary school, was called Nothing But Nothing and in later years, he played in various other groups, including Smaragd, The Happy Five, and Faraon, with whom he recorded his first big hit, the 1972 song "Holubí dům", penned by Jaroslav Uhlíř and Zdeněk Svěrák. 1996 Czech Legislative Election
Parliamentary elections were held in the Czech Republic on 31 May and 1 June 1996,Dieter Nohlen & Philip Stöver (2010) ''Elections in Europe: A data handbook'', p471 the first after independence. The result was a victory for the Civic Democratic Party, which won 68 of the 200 seats. Voter turnout was 76.3%.Nohlen & Stöver, p472 Campaign The campaign was primarily a conflict between the right-wing ODS and left-wing ČSSD. The ODS used slogans "Freedom and Prosperity" and "We proved that we can." ČSSD used slogan "Humanity against selfishness." ČSSD used an autobus called "Zemák" during its campaign. Party's leader Miloš Zeman campaigned with it at multiple places over the Czech Republic. ODS on the other hand used endorsements of public celebrities such as Lucie Bílá. Czech Social Democratic Party
The Czech Social Democratic Party ( cs, Česká strana sociálně demokratická, ČSSD, ) is a social-democratic political party in the Czech Republic. Sitting on the centre-left of the political spectrum and holding pro-European views, it is a member of the Party of European Socialists, the Socialist International, and the Progressive Alliance. Masaryk Democratic Academy is the party-affiliated's think tank. The ČSSD was a junior coalition party within Andrej Babiš' Second Cabinet's minority government from June 2018, and was a senior coalition party from 1998 to 2006 and from 2013 to 2017. It held 15 seats in the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Republic following the 2017 Czech legislative election in which the party lost 35 seats. The Club of Committed Non-Party Members (in Czech ''Klub angažovaných nestraníků'', ''KAN'') is a small liberal party in the Czech Republic co-founded by Rudolf Battěk. It was founded during the Prague Spring in May 1968 by 144 leading Czechoslovak intellectuals and prominent social figures. It was formed as an independent activist organisation with the purpose of advocating a reform program. It committed itself to human rights and civil equality, political pluralism, and the principles embodied in the UN Declaration on human rights. During its peak, it claimed to have almost 15,000 members. The Soviet Army formally proscribed it in September 1968. After the Velvet Revolution of 1989, KAN was reorganized in 1990 as a party, but it has not gained wide support in the elections and is not represented in the parliament. Velvet Revolution
The Velvet Revolution ( cs, Sametová revoluce) or Gentle Revolution ( sk, Nežná revolúcia) was a non-violent transition of power in what was then Czechoslovakia, occurring from 17 November to 28 November 1989. Popular demonstrations against the one-party government of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia included students and older dissidents. The result was the end of 41 years of one-party rule in Czechoslovakia, and the subsequent dismantling of the command economy and conversion to a parliamentary republic. On 17 November 1989 ( International Students' Day), riot police suppressed a student demonstration in Prague.
