Frank Nelson Blanchard
Frank Nelson Blanchard (December 19, 1888 – September 21, 1937) was an Americans, American Herpetology, herpetologist, and professor of zoology at the University of Michigan from which institution he received his Ph.D. He is credited with describing several new subspecies, including the broad-banded water snake, ''Nerodia fasciata confluens'', and the Florida king snake, ''Lampropeltis getula floridana''. As well, he has been honored by having reptiles and amphibians named after him, including the western smooth green snake, ''Smooth green snake#Subs , ecies , Opheodrys vernalis blanchardi'', and Blanchard's cricket frog, ''Acris crepitans blanchardi''. Born in Stoneham, Massachusetts, Blanchard attained his Bachelor of Science in biology from Tufts University in 1913. He received his doctorate in zoology from the University of Michigan in 1919, where he studied with Helen Gaige under Dr. Alexander Grant Ruthven. Stoneham, Massachusetts
Stoneham ( ) is a town in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, nine miles (14.5 km) north of downtown Boston. Its population was 23,244 at the 2020 census. Its proximity to major highways and public transportation offer convenient access to Boston and the North Shore coastal region and beaches of Massachusetts. The town is the birthplace of the Olympic figure-skating medalist Nancy Kerrigan and is the location of the Stone Zoo. History The earliest documented mention of the territory now called Stoneham dates to 1632 when, on February 7, Governor Winthrop and his party came upon this area. They found Spot Pond and ate their lunch on a place they called Cheese Rock, now known as Bear Hill. Stoneham is situated on the traditional territory of the Massachusett and Pawtucket peoples.
