Francis A. Deleglise
Francis Augustine Deleglise (February 10, 1835March 25, 1894) was a Swiss American immigrant, surveyor, and businessman. He was one of the first settlers at what is now Antigo, Wisconsin, and he represented Florence, Forest, and Langlade counties in the Wisconsin State Assembly in the 1893 session. During the American Civil War, he served in the famed Iron Brigade of the Army of the Potomac and was wounded at Antietam and Gettysburg. Biography Born in Bagnes, Valais, Switzerland, Deleglise emigrated to the United States in 1848 and settled in Wisconsin. Deleglise lived in Dodge, Manitowoc Counties, Wisconsin, and in Appleton, Wisconsin. During the American Civil War, Deleglise served in the 6th Wisconsin Infantry Regiment and was badly wounded. Wisconsin State Assembly
The Wisconsin State Assembly is the lower house of the Wisconsin Legislature. Together with the smaller Wisconsin Senate, the two constitute the legislative branch of the U.S. state of Wisconsin. Representatives are elected for two-year terms, elected during the fall elections. If a vacancy occurs in an Assembly seat between elections, it may be filled only by a special election. The Wisconsin Constitution limits the size of the State Assembly to between 54 and 100 members inclusive. Since 1973, the state has been divided into 99 Assembly districts apportioned amongst the state based on population as determined by the decennial census, for a total of 99 representatives. Antigo Public Library And Deleglise Cabin
The Antigo Public Library and Deleglise Cabin comprise a historic site in Antigo, Wisconsin. The library building is a Carnegie library built in 1904. In 1997, the Antigo Public Library left the building; it is now a museum and the headquarters of the Langlade County Historical Society. The Deleglise Cabin, the first home in Antigo, was constructed by George Eckart in 1878 on the Springbrook and inhabited by Francis A. Deleglise. The cabin was moved near the library in 1916. Ellis Baker Usher
Ellis Baker Usher (June 21, 1852April 21, 1931) was an American journalist, newspaper publisher, and Democratic politician. He served as chairman of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin from 1887 to 1890, and was publisher of the La Crosse ''Chronicle'' for 20 years. Biography Usher was born in Buxton, Maine, in 1852. As a child, his parents moved the family to La Crosse, Wisconsin, where his father had been hired to work as an agent of Cadwallader C. Washburn in charge of lumber operations on the Black River. Ellis Usher attended local schools in La Crosse, then attended Lombard College in Galesburg, Illinois, for one year. At age 16, he was hired as a clerical aide to Judge S. S. Burton, who was receiver of the U.S. Land Office and deputy collector of internal revenue. After two years, he became a clerical aide in the real estate business of N. D. Antigo is a town in Langlade County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,412 at the 2010 census. The town is bordered to the southwest by the city of Antigo, the Langlade county seat.
