Fountain Court Chambers
Fountain Court Chambers is a set of commercial barristers based in the Temple in London and with offices in Singapore. It has 95 full members (in addition to door tenants), of whom 41 are silks. It is in the Magic Circle. History It is possible to trace Fountain Court's origins to the early part of the Twentieth Century, but its period of sustained success dates from after the Second World War. Its reputation for commercial litigation developed in the late 1940s and 1950s and its standing as a 'magic circle' chambers was cemented in the 1960s and 1970s. Alan Stewart Orr
Sir Alan Stewart Orr (21 February 1911 – 3 April 1991) was a British barrister specialising in taxation who rose to be a High Court judge and a Lord Justice of Appeal. After 1958 he was known as Alan Orr QC, from 1965 as Mr Justice Orr, and from 1971 as Lord Justice Orr. During the Second World War, Orr served in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, became a wing commander, and was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire for his wartime service. Nicholas Stadlen
Sir Nicholas Felix Stadlen (born 3 May 1950) is a former judge of the High Court of England and Wales. He was appointed to the High Court's Queen's Bench Division on 2 October 2007 and retired early, on 21 April 2013. His parents were political activist Hedi Stadlen and pianist and composer Peter Stadlen. He was educated at St Paul's School, London and Trinity College, Cambridge, where he read history and classics and was president of the Cambridge Union in 1970. He was working as a busboy in New York's Times Square on April 4, 1968, when the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. happened in Memphis, and travelled to the south to witness the extraordinary events following his death. Nicholas Underhill
Sir Nicholas Edward Underhill (born 12 May 1952), styled The Rt Hon. Lord Justice Underhill, is a British judge of the Court of Appeal of England and Wales. He was educated at Winchester College and New College, Oxford. Legal career Underhill was called to the bar at Gray's Inn 1976 (elected a bencher 2000). He became a Queen's Counsel in 1992. He was appointed a Recorder in 1994 and was authorised as a deputy High Court judge in 1998. From 2000 to 2003, he was a temporary additional judge of the Employment Appeal Tribunal. He served as Attorney-General to the Prince of Wales from 1998 to 2006. The lord chancellor, formally the lord high chancellor of Great Britain, is the highest-ranking traditional minister among the Great Officers of State in Scotland and England in the United Kingdom, nominally outranking the prime minister. Charles Leslie Falconer, Baron Falconer of Thoroton, (born 19 November 1951) is a British Labour peer and barrister who served as Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice under Prime Minister Tony Blair from 2003 to 2007. Born in Edinburgh, Falconer read law at Queens' College, Cambridge and then worked as a barrister in London. During his time as a barrister, he was a flatmate of Tony Blair. Attorney General For England And Wales
His Majesty's Attorney General for England and Wales is one of the law officers of the Crown and the principal legal adviser to sovereign and Government in affairs pertaining to England and Wales. The attorney general maintains the Attorney General's Office and currently attends (but is not a member of) Cabinet. Peter Henry Goldsmith, Baron Goldsmith (born 5 January 1950) is a British barrister and a former Attorney General for England and Wales and for Northern Ireland. Sir Denis Robert Maurice Henry, PC (19 April 1931 – 6 March 2010) was an English barrister, Queen's Counsel and judge, rising to Lord Justice of Appeal. He presided over the Guinness share-trading fraud trial, a major British business scandal of the 1980s. Education Denis Henry was born 19 April 1931 in Margate, son of a British Indian Army Brigadier in the 5th Maratha Light Infantry. He lived as a child in Quetta and New Delhi, later in Oxford and during World War II in Boston, Massachusetts as an evacuee. The Court of Appeal (formally "His Majesty's Court of Appeal in England", commonly cited as "CA", "EWCA" or "CoA") is the highest court within the Senior Courts of England and Wales, and second in the legal system of England and Wales only to the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom. Sir Mark Howard Potter PC FKC KC (born 27 August 1937) is a retired English judge who was President of the Family Division and Head of Family Justice for England and Wales from 2005 to 2010. Now retired, he remains a Fellow of King's College London. Education A son of Professor Harold Potter, an academic lawyer, Potter attended The Perse School, Cambridge, and then read law at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge. He is now an Honorary Fellow of Caius.
